Happy Blue!

Father has a Daihatsu Sirion, one of the last sold before they abandoned the European market.

He broke the passenger side door mirror housing and it is hanging off. Trying to find a replacement from former dealers or scrappies has been impossible. Thought about Australia but they stopped in 2005.... Read more

Just saw crash between new looking golf and old school lr defender. 50 mph A road. Landie aquaplaning resulting head on collision. No one hurt too bad. Looked like the golf absorbed about 80% of the crash energy to me. What happens if 2 landies crash? Where does the energy go? Even a few years ago this would have been serious I think. Count me out from buying a classic car. Read more

There isn't much to absorb the impact in an old Land Rover Defender before it gets to the occupants. And your head is very close to the windscreen and side windows, not to mention the bits of sharp metal dotted around inside (probably padded over in more recent versions).

I bought my new car, on a 60 plate, about 3 weeks ago, and went on a long motorway journey last weekend.

Very disappointed as only got 45.2 mpg on a journey of 240 miles. Last 45 miles of return journey were at 50mph (roadworks on M1) and it went up to 47.7 mpg... Read more

With a tickover at 1000 it sounds like the ECU thinks the engine is cold.

If it has a temperature guage is that showing normal temperature after 3 or 4 miles?...

I've always liked the dear old Dobbin the first version had so much space that it made it's nearest rivals the Berlingo or Kangoo feel claustrophobic by comparison, it was also rather well liked by the taxi trade with the optional high roof giving additional space, The second version was maybe not the sales success of it's predecessor, but it still had bags of space and was much more refined, for me the cherry on the cake was the range of diesel engines culminating with the hog snortin' 1-9 litre unit that had only slightly less available torque than a Sea Harrier. So I rather hope that it does well although I think that the prices are a little ambitious and Ford have introduced the impressive Torneo Connect (also built in Turkey) and with that company's much larger sales network and ruthless discounting I rather think that the Dobbin may have it's work cut out and that Dobbin 3 may be one sequel too far Read more

We are a family of three who has a 01 Honda Civic Exective. It has 89,000 miles (very low for its age). We have replaced the cam belt last year and now the power steering has failed and we were told by a garage and the main dealer that it will be £475 to fix (I checked for used parts on ebay but nothing for our make/model). The car will also need a clutch soon which will be an additional cost.

I agree with the above, as long as, other than power steering and clutch, it's sound. I feel it's a case of better the devil you know etc. on the whole the Civics of the same vintage as yours were well screwed together. The cost of replacing your car with something decent will far outweigh the cost of repairing it.

Hello,

Could some body help identify the solenoid looking part in the centre of this picture please.. its making a loud ticking noise which you can feel if you hold your finger on it. The car also runs very flat up hills and the turbo appears to not always boost on a flat road and never up a hill.... Read more

Car cooling system appears to be under performing on the heating of the car? The temp gauge is not getting up to temperature consistently, the radiator fan does operate when car stationary but in the cabin when driving even with the dashboard fan switch on '4' the heating is mediocre !?!

My thoughts are, maybe an airlock ? if so, what is the cure? thermostat? cure a new one :-) or maybe the rad cap? cure a new one:-),... Read more

I havea warning light coming up on my car which states the egr valve is faulty, my mechanic has cleaned it only for the problem to happen within 20 miles of driving the car so we bought an EGR Valve from a breaker and again it worked but after about 20 miles the warning light has come on again ! Does anyone else know of this issue and a solution, it is possible that the repacement valve is also faulty but a new one is £300 plus fitting so before I go down that route I need to check it can't be anything else as it could be money not so well spent. Railroad.

Precisely what leads you to suspect that the EGR valve is faulty? Does it work, and does it move from fully open to fully closed? If it's clogged up with thick deposits then the whole air intake after the EGR valve will be too.
