Daihatsu parts - Happy Blue!

Father has a Daihatsu Sirion, one of the last sold before they abandoned the European market.

He broke the passenger side door mirror housing and it is hanging off. Trying to find a replacement from former dealers or scrappies has been impossible. Thought about Australia but they stopped in 2005.

Short of gluing it back on (feasible) any ideas?

As is (I believe) the Subaru Justy Extending your search to the sister cars in the scrapyards should help. If not, I'd visit a Subaru dealer - you may find it trickier to match paint colours though.

The last model Subaru Justy was a badge engineered version of the Daihatsu Sirion. Subaru and Daihatsu were imported into the UK by the same company - IM Group.

Why not contact the importer directly?

Give www.eakinbrosltd.co.uk/ a try, they're supposed to still be supplying Daihatsu parts.

You can order them from Malaysia for cheap (the car is still made in Malaysia by Perodua who are part owned by Toyota, it is sold throught the far east - a testament to its excellent design and reliability).

The down side is the courier charges, but it may be worth geting a few items all together.

My partners old 06 plate Sirion that we sold to a family friend, was P/X around this time last year, only because of the uneconomical cost of replacing the clutch.

They couldnt buy a clutch plate for less than £300 + plus fitting.

I would try phoning around former Daihatsu and Perodua garages, you might find one who still has the part on the shelf.

The engine is Toyota Yaris so clutch /engien parts are avaliable cheaply from Toyota

Toyota dealers as well as mentioned above as they should carry spare parts as they said they would when Daihatsu stoped selling cars in the UK

Don't know what year you are looking for but eBay has them as well.

Thanks. It is the whole mirror assembly I need and the Toyota dealers I have visited nor ebay stock them nor can get hold of them. It's a mess and IM have done themselves no need favours.

Who's IM?

Daihatsu parts - Happy Blue!

IM - the importers.

As it happens I withdraw that last statement. I finally found a phone number, rang them and although they cannot supply, they gave me the part number, told me they had four in stock and asked me to ring a local deal who would order it on my behalf. All done and I hope to get it tomorrow afternoon. Just a pity I had this running around, £172.66 + VAT is a bit steep though!

Used to import Daihatsu along with Subaru, Izusu, Proton (I think) and now Great Wall.

They used to have Hyundai too, doubtless no more successfully than they have been with the others. Hyundai have gone from strength to strength since the change - I assume to Hyundai itself.

Subaru used to do very well in the UK, particularly in country areas. Not any more: I don't think it's the fault of the cars themselves as they are very popular in the USA.

I can only assume they make money from sales of parts etc and can't be bothered about selling new modesl of good brands.

I have looked at Subaru's twice in the past and have come away very disapointed both times.

First time was in about 1999, they had done very well in the customer satisfaction survey and I had some money in the bank from a car I had sold. Got a very reasonable insurance quote from Aviva so decided to give it a go. First thing I spotted was the quality of the paint, other than the outside visible surfaces there was no lacquer anwhere, very disapointing. Then there was the interior trim, our Mk 3 Golf was in a different league. Finally servicing. 7500 miles or 6 months was £150, the annual was £250, total £400 a year. That was over double we were paying for a Ford and VW at the time. Did not bother driving one.

Second time was after the update to the later shape in about 2005, thought it was only fair to have a second look. The paintwork was slightly better, the interior was slightly better and servicing was now every 12 months but they wanted £450 a time. They were simply not value for money.

Shortly after this the customer satisfaction ratings started to fall, people probably noticed they were being ripped off maintaining a car that was nothing special.

2 work colleagues have had Subaru's, one has actually had 2. Servicing costs were very high and the gearboxes were made of cheese. Both have had new bearings fitted, one person on both cars. They used the same dealer (different one to that I visited) and they were robbed everytime they went. New brake pads front and rear every 12 months (7000 miles) is simply beyond belief as was the cars habits of consuming tyres at an incredible rate. This dealer is no longer Subaru. Eventually they changed to a different dealer but his prices and schedules were just the same, they no longer sell Subaru either.

All in all I count myself lucky I never bought one. They appear to be an overpriced money pit from what I can see.

Which basically said their (Subaru's ) reliability was on a par with VW.. (3 stars outy of 5)

Which means avoid like the plague

Living on past glories.

Friends bought a 2 year old Subaru Forester D to repalce a 2.5XT Forester which they iused to tow with.

After two new clutches in two years , they have bought a Honda CRV.
