I've been looking to buy a car up to 5 years old .. Diesel (cheaper tax reasons)
But I've been told the DPF on diesels isn't for me ..
I will literally drive the car for about 10 mins day (loading up parcels to take to the PO literally 4 minute drive away) ... weekends I would use it for longer trips, days out etc ... and only about 3 times a year to load up with camping stuff and go on long journeys..
Would a diesel give me problems .. is a petrol the way to go for me?
Thanks Read more

Don't forget the water pump drive belt at the other end of the engine, near the battery, under plastic cover.
Sitting on plastic is something I thought I'd left behind me when I traded in my Mk.2 Cortina for the coke-bottle Mk.3 of the mid-70's. No more ill-fitting seat covers to stop "burnt-thigh", a feature of 60's travel in summer shorts. And the "new" "C" had no spare wheel either. I've has "C" class cars for more than a decade, but not this one, thank you!. Read more
The Fatherland seems top have cleaned up on this one.
I'm going to look at a car today and if I like it im going to buy it. But as the new rules stand it won't have the remainder of the tax. Will I be abel to go online and tax it or will I have to go to the post office? Read more
Just looked and it appears that although you no longer have to produce a valid certificate of insurance automatic on-line checks are carried out to ensure that insurance is in place on the car.
I taxed a car which has no insurance on it this morning...
Surely its the responsibilty of the speed camera vermin to check the signage everytime before they start their dirty work?
When I lift my clutch pedal, as the clutch engages my car revs up by about 300 rpm and it's getting very annoying! Does anyone have any ideas as to what this can be? Thanks!! Read more
I've noticed it doesn't seem to be doing it all the time tho?
Hello. The engine electronics immobilzer warning light came on this afternoon on my Astra diesel estate. (The yellow light showing a car and a spanner through it). It goes off when I brake to stop at junctions and the car was driving as normal for the 10 miles that it took to get home. Does anyone have any ideas please. It is an 02 reg so an older car but has been very reliable. Hoping this isn't going to be expensive.... Thank you. Read more
The yellow light is the engine systems malfunction light. This covers a multitude of faults. You will need to get a diagnostic test done to establish what faults are logged.
I have a vectra 1.9 150bhp which when I accelerate there's a clicking noise it only happens when I accelerate. There's only one click but it happens all the time when the gas pedal is depressed when driving along . Also the service light comes on with the spanner on it. Any ideas on this problem please. The 1.6 petrol in the latest shape Kangoo drives nice, but the kangoo is by far the worst van MPV for rear leg room and the 1.6 petrol is thirsty, you would expect no more than 35 mpg on a run.
