I've often thought that even if has been an excellent workhorse the Fabia estate has never looked quite right, but these pictures show that this has been rectified, what we have here is a smart looking car that could easily have an Audi badge screwed on it and no one would be any the wiser Read more
Looks nice, of course...I just wonder if they had an Italian design it this time (the Alfa connection?), or if it is part of the "KODO" design ethos? Read more
Seems to be some confusion on the automatic gearboxes being proposed for the HR-V. Here John writes of a 9-speed ZF Automatic. Other sites are reporting that the auto 'box will be a CVT.
I suppose I'd be happy with either, being thankful that the DCD isn't being offered. Read more
I owned an absolute banger of a Cavalier in the nineties that managed to start under six feet of snow and hardly let me down in two years of bangernomics ownership. The eighties Vauxhalls were generally good cars, far better than what Ford and Austin were offering at the time, and still have a following today. I did own an Austin Montego not long after the Cavalier, I bought it for next to nothing, and it lived up to its reputation for being terrible.
Can an insurance company write off a car without a claim being made? Read more
I think the main reason for the insurance co. writting the car off is to enable them to cancel the policy with probably no refund, whereas if they didn't write it off the policy would continue until its expiration date with no extra money to the insurance co. Would be interested to know how much they've offered for the write off because I was under the impression that the amount is negotiable and if they don't meet your valuation you are entitled to tell them to take a hike. All this conjecture depends if the vehicle is roadworthy, if it is get in touch with the insurance ombudsman and if the salvage people do contact you tell them that the ownership of the vehicle is subject of a dispute and you're not willing to release it until the dispute is settled.
I am debating whether it is worth getting the gearbox bearings replaced on our 2004 Jazz which has only covered 24000 miles and is in excellent condition . This is apparently a common failure ,can anyone tell me if this problem is fixed after the bearing are replaced ( ie were the original bearings of poor quality) or is it a design fault which re-occurs? Hi Guys
14 years since I bought a new car, coming from a 1998 2.5 V6 Vauxhall Omega!
have been reading horror stories about some Mazda 6 cars,
but i was about to purchase one
can you all advise if what I`m about to buy will be okay?
what were the issues exactly? and when were they fixed by Mazda?
something to do with oil level rising and going into the diesel and DPF problems?
the setup date of the car I`m going to buy is 25th Jun 2010,
but registration date is 1st September 2011
its a 2.2 Diesel (163) Takuya model in black, here is the exact car I have put a deposit down on
http://www.johnsonscars.co.uk/mazda/use ... 53/mazda-6
it only has 29k on the clock, full history, looks a lovely motor, never owned Japanese before obviously
any advice on my new car would be lovely, getting excited as I`m going to pick it up next week

The 163 is the old engine not a skyactive one which is either 150 ps or 175ps.
I'v had a 175ps for over a year, do short journeys mainly and cover only 7K miles a year. Yes this engine will usually have some oil rise which is why you have to use the correct oil. The engine is superb in every way, and is great from towing. And the quality is easily on a parr with Nissan....
As of midnight last night the tax on my car expired. I re-taxed this morning via the interweb. Now if I forget to remove my tax disc, even though I am up to date, I wonder if an over zealous traffic warden etc. will give me a ticket for displaying expired tax? Read more
I just put my new disc over my old one, I may drag out one from 4 years ago and leave it there.
Last year my car failed the MOT and I had Mr Clutch fix the 3 problems, this year I had a different garage do the MOT and 2 of the 3 problems were last years 'fixed' problems. I can't find the recipt for the work but I can find the MOT's from last years fail and fix. What should I do? Read more
Finding that receipt will be a big help too.
Have tried 3 light units so far and all display the same problem. I am trying to connect additional stop/tail light which also has numberplate light included. When it's wired up with the existing lighting only the number plate light works and the tail light darkens. The brake light works OK. All of the units have been e marked.
I have tried separate 12V supply direct from battery for tail light but as soon as other stop/tail bulb inserted the tail light darkens but the number plate light stays on. Unit has 3 wires connected, stop(Red). tail/numberplate(Yellow). and earth(Black).... Read more
Can you try running a seperate earth directly from the rear lights 'sub frame' to your unit and seeing what happens?
Exactly same result

Currently have a Roomster which has been completely faultless but would have liked it to be a tad longer. I am soon going to seriously look at this estate as my next new car. With the more economical engines and hopefully that extra length I am looking for in what is still quite a small car, this version of the Fabia may well be my ideal.
