My firm has moved offices and parking is limited to a small rear car park with narrow access and narrower spaces. My S-max takes up too much space and we could probably park two small cars where mine goes.
The journey to the new office is six miles of urban main road north out of Manchester with 30 mph speed limits and no obvious open road. ... Read more

How does one go about checking the efficiency of cooling of a/c, I have read somewhere that these golfs have poor a/c. Can any person confirm or deny this fact that the compressor design is poor on the mark 7. Read more
Most car makers have now gone down the route of using "clutchless compressors"for fuel and power effiiciency. In simple terms this means the ac pump is driven continuosly whether the ac is on or off.The cooling demand is controlled by en electronic valve within the pump. However these have proved to be not the most reliable of units and Vag have had a large number of failures. If a Golf system is working correctly, then is no reason for it to be any worse than another maker.
And even better (for me) I was offered the opportunity to return to JLR Engineering today!!
Is that employment ? It's a good time to join them.

Hi all,
I'm looking to buy a second hand car that should hopefully be fuel efficient and reliable. I have a 70 mile round commute which, on a one way journey, consists of about 5 miles city driving, 15 miles motorway driving and 15 miles on A/B roads (although there's sometimes a bit of traffic on these). At the moment, I own an '02 1.2L corsa which has served me well on this commute for about a year, but things are starting to fall apart now! I get about 40mpg, so anything around that or higher would be great. I'm inclined to get another corsa, although I am open to other options. My budget is between £3500-4500.... Read more
You are taking a car from 60,000 miles to 120,000 miles in three years and from say four years to seven years. Likely depreciation will be about 75% of the purchase price I would say.

On August 31st whilst holidaying in the Lake District our car’s clutch burnt out. The RAC recovered us to an RAC approved garage, Lakeland Motor Centre in Kendal.
The service we received from Lakeland Motor Centre was exemplary in all aspects. It was top quality people doing top quality work. They were extremely helpful and skilled. We felt valued as customers. A truly ‘ Carling’ experience. Although nobody enjoys car bills it was well earned and we were happy to pay it. I recommend them without reservation. Driving home the car was like it was when we first bought it !
When we were going in to the garage I noticed it was a Bosch Service Centre.
I am interested to find out other experiences with Bosch Service Centres. I obviously was very impressed but is this always the case ?
Yes - apologies for the error.
The post from mechanic confirm my experience and I fully support his view on ill informed comments. It is inevitable that in all large organisations there will be a minority who let it down. They will lose the recognition of Bosch and take the consequences - I suspect not just the result of CCJs...
Local garage are doing good deals on Ford Fiesta's with the 1.25 60ps Duratec engine. What is this engine like in the Fiesta - is it sluggish ? Is this old technology now - will anyone want it in 3 years time. Its this or hold onto what i have - i cant afford the 1.0 ecoboost at the moment. Read more
Not driven a Fiesta with the 60PS 1.25 "Duratec" engine but the 1.25 80 PS one is fine.
The engine was introduced in about 1995. Co designed by Yamaha and is all alloy in contruction. Belt cams and generally robust. Was originally called the Zetec SE which changed to the Sigma and by the sounds of things is now called the Duratec to keep it in line with fords other engine offereings. Ford love to confuse matters....
Being the idiot I am, I forgot that my father spends most of the year overseas. His car is a 2010 Daihatsu Sirion Automatic which is insured through the family company so any employee over 23 can drive it - not only am I over 23 (50 next month) but as the MD, I think I class as an employee. Perfect. No need to buy a car, his car gets a regular drive and no extra costs other than a a gallon of fuel every three days. Lovely!
