  1. On August 31st whilst holidaying in the Lake District our car’s clutch burnt out. The RAC recovered us to an RAC approved garage, Lakeland Motor Centre in Kendal.
The service we received from Lakeland Motor Centre was exemplary in all aspects. It was top quality people doing top quality work. They were extremely helpful and skilled. We felt valued as customers. A truly ‘ Carling’ experience. Although nobody enjoys car bills it was well earned and we were happy to pay it. I recommend them without reservation. Driving home the car was like it was when we first bought it !
When we were going in to the garage I noticed it was a Bosch Service Centre.
I am interested to find out other experiences with Bosch Service Centres. I obviously was very impressed but is this always the case ?

When we were going in to the garage I noticed it was a Bosch Service Centre

Just means they sell and fit Bosch products and have possibly been inspected by someone from Bosch.

They could still emply idiots and rip people off.

My local French Car specialist is also a Bosch Service Centre. Re-branded as such maybe a year ago.

I suspect it's a franchise of some sort and that Bosch will have some kind of quality control in place. Can't see them risking reputational damage involved in the idiot/rip off secnario.

Always nice to hear about a good garage, which does quality work at reasonable prices. I can't comment on the Bosch Service Centre set-up as I have no experience, but must admit I thought it was a Lucas Autocentre type thing, which had a poor reputation.

As usual, another misinformed opinion.

As a former employee in a Bosch service centre, I can state that it's not just a case of them selling and fitting Bosch parts. It goes much deeper than that in as much that the technicians, service advisors and even parts advisors are trained to a high standard in their respective fields. The technical backup from Bosch is second only to franchised main dealers (in some cases, better) going from my experiences.

All Bosch service centres have to comply to a strict code of practice which has been approved by the Trading Standards Institute so no, it's not just a simple case of being inspected by a bod from Bosch. The centres are regularly audited and have mystery shoppers sent out to check that the standards set out by Bosch are being adhered to. If not, the centre is liable to fines, disciplinary action or being struck off.The OP has had a good experience from a garage and then feels the need to share that on the forum. This is not the norm as most comments regarding the motor trade are quite the opposite and we don't need the negative, narrow minded comments from posters who either have no idea what the certification of a tightly regulated garage entails, or had a bad experience from a possibly non regulated garage 20 years ago and feels the need to tar everyone with the same brush.

Hmm... so past disasters are to be ignored.

No wonder teh motor trade has a poor and deserved reputation with attitudes like that...

A properly run motor trade with have all members certified and bad behaiour punished. As it is , it's a lottery for consumers.

The Motor Trade is its own worst enemy.

Well, I had my car serviced by a Bosch service centre. The non-Ford cambelt they fitted failed, and they caused further damage when they tried to fix what they'd done.

I like to think my two CCJs contributed to putting these bandits out of business.

Did you mean Lakeland Car Centre?

Yes - apologies for the error.

The post from mechanic confirm my experience and I fully support his view on ill informed comments. It is inevitable that in all large organisations there will be a minority who let it down. They will lose the recognition of Bosch and take the consequences - I suspect not just the result of CCJs

Unlike for example Gas safe there is no legally enforced check on standards for something which, if not done properly, could also have disastrous consequences.

I now have much more confidence in a garage under the mantle of Bosch.

Thanks mechanic for sharing your knowledge as an ex employee.
