I wonder if they'll rustproof these ones ;-)

Hi, it all started when my fan belt split and couresed my engine to STOP. When the cover of the cam belt was taken off there was bits of the fan belt on the pullys, when the timing was set there was no compression so then the head was taken off and valves check and been resitted and put back together. Old cam belt was not broken, but was still replaced with a new belt. Also had to replace cranksensor and a new outer sensor ring (magnetic track)from main dealer :¬( . Still no compression but if the cam pully is set 1 tooth out,its has compression but will not start, even when "easy start" is used.It been on dianostic and no fault showing. Really dont know what to do next, anyone got any idears?Cheers Read more

I think the point skidpan is trying to make is you've obviously covered all you can without resolving it.

Maybe it is time to ask for professional help as trying to diagnose what is wrong without physically inspecting and checking the work already done is merely guesswork. You may have missed something that a fresh pair of eyes may see ?...

My car has 150,000 miles on the clock - I was reading online that it's a good idea to replace the fuel filter (it still has the original one) due to the mileage.

Phoned up VW for a price (£26) but the guy said it's an inline one and doesn't normally need changing. There's a section in the Haynes manual about how to change it, so it is a serviceable part although VW didn't seem to agree...there's no recommended interval though.

Any truth in this or still worth doing? Surely it's like any other filter and gets crapped up over time? Read more

Thanks for the replies.

I'm going for the genuine VW one (they don't make the one that was fitted to the car, but have sold me an alternative that's like for like almost but will work).

It might not need doing but I guess it won't harm. I have many times ran the tank very close to empty, so it could be gunked up with crap from the tank.

Hi, new to this forum but urgently need advice, so apologies for length of post. My 20 year old daughter was involved in car accident 2 weeks ago, and her vw golf was written off. Her cover with Diamond was fully comp, SDP and commuting to and from home and place of business. She works for a solicitors and often in the morning, on her way to work, she picks up post from DX office in town. After accident, my daughter phoned Diamond and believing honesty was best policy, told them exactly where she was at time of accident and what she was doing, even though her boss was trying to tell her to say something else. We have now been told by Diamond that they will not pay out as her insurance was invalid. They say she should have had business cover as at time of accident she was doing something for work so technically she is uninsured. This came as such a shock. Ive been driving for over 25 years and I've never heard of business cover and my daughter certainly hadn't. She bought her insurance in good faith and has been paying £70 a month in the belief that she is fully covered, so this is a devastating blow as she has lost everything. I have done lots of research and have asked ombudsman to intervene, I fell like she has been made the scapegoat when I feel its either a. responsibility of insurance company when she bought insurance or b. her employer's responsibility as she is always asking my daughter to drive here and there whilst knowing all the time she should have business cover. Can anyone clarify the situation for me or offer any assistance?

Any help much appreciated..thank you Read more

Public Liability Insurance won't cover a road traffic accident

Mr Indecisive

Hi,

I'm currently looking at buying a 2nd hand car and have been trawling used car lots and the internet for the last couple of weeks.

I've finally whittled it down to 2, both of which should suit my needs. The only problem is I just can't decide which one to buy!

I think it's possibly because they're both very similar.

See below..

Car 1
- Fiesta
- 1.4
- 2004 reg
- 77,000 miles
- 3 dr

Car 2
- Fiesta
- 1.4
- 2007 reg
- 80,000 miles
- 5 dr

Car 1 is being sold by a garage that's throwing in a new MOT, service, and 6mths tax

Car 2 is being sold by a used car lot and throwing in a service (car is MOTed to June next year)

The only difference other than age is the interior, with car 1 being slightly more worn than car 2.

I've already tried researching both models, listing for and against, and even flipping a coin, but still can't decide.

I'm currently carless at the moment (an insurance claim killed off my last car), but need to get sorted soon.

Any help or comments or appreciated!

Thanks Read more

Agreed - car 2 every time, unless there's something you haven't mentioned that makes the decision more difficult than it seems to us. Age wears a car out as much as mileage.

hi my stop light dosent go out after a few minutes it stays on continious so i check the hydrolic oli level and topped it up needed a little checked on the ground no oil leeking any idea why it still wont go out i am in spain and cars are very expensive to repair can anyone help Read more

The STOP light is a master caution and IIRC it will come on for other critical faults as well as those related to the LHM level. It's usually accompanied by one of the other lights such as oil pressure or coolant if that is the problem.

Are you sure your oil and coolant levels are OK and that engine temperature is staying in normal parameters (80-110 degrees engine warm). ...

I am driving a 2001 C200k W203 (original owner since 2001). In the past six months, I need to point my car key remote to the driver door infra red sensor to unlock the car. In the past, I can unlock the car using the car key at least 10 feet away. I replaced the two button batteries CR2025 inside the key but no improvement.

The above situation applies to both of the two car keys originally supplied by Mercedes.

I further discovered that fuse 8 at the boot was blown and the alarm siren was failed. However, the fuse 8 blown again after I replaced it with a new one. Apparently, there is a short somewhere in the circuity. How should I trouble shoot further?

Looking forward to your advice and thanks in advance. Read more

A good point well made - You also can add cyclists and car drivers to being guilty of the headphone usage whilst on the move. Read more
