I'm having a few minor running problems with my car - I recently had the fuel filter replaced and the brake fluid renewed (and bled properly)...I'm not sure if these issues are related but they've only come about since. Car has 150k on the clock and original clutch...mainly motorway miles.
- The clutch feels really soft and smooth (unusually smooth, maybe new fluid has done this.). When I change gear, no matter how violently I release the pedal there is no feeling of it going into gear (no jolt etc) even though it goes into gear fine. I'm thinking maybe I need to bleed it because it shares the same fluid as the brakes and maybe there is air in the system after the fluid was renewed. Biting point seems fine. More evident in gears 1 to 3. No problems selecting gears.
- When I take my foot off the accelerator while cruising in whatever gear, the revs seem to freeze and take a while to start dropping...maybe this is new to me because the fuel filter is brand new and the fuel flow is stronger into the engine therefore the revs are staying constant longer?
- When I go on the accelerator after changing gear, there is a slight delay before I have power. The clutch isn't slipping or anything. Have had a new air filer and spark plugs not too long ago. Car revs instantly when revved out of gear and stationary.
Have scanned the car and no errors apart from the cat (it's on its way out and had been for a while). Can air in the clutch system cause all the other symptoms? The clutch is fine and not slipping.
Thanks for any advice. Read more
My sons Mk 4 VW Golf (1.4) is coming up to needing a set of tyres & he wants to look at alloys. Nothing too ridiculous, 15 or 16 inch & probably VW's own. At present there are steel wheels with 175 x 80 x 14 tyres.
There is a set of alloys from a 1.6 Golf (Mk 4) with good 195 x 65 x 15 tyres, that have pleanty of tread & in good condition.... Read more
You'll need to check the PCD, offset and centre bore of the new wheels are compatible with the car: www.wheelfitment.eu/
Check the new tyre size isn't too far removed from the existing: www.etyres.co.uk/tyre-size-calculator...
My daughters car has been making this noise for about a month,& it's so loud pedestrians look & stare. 2 weeks ago,it went in to Seat main dealer to have gearbox oil changed from synthetic to mineral. ( Global recall,it seems)
She told them about the noise & they handed back the car ,saying it was ok.Needless to say,it isn't. A few days ago,it was fitted with a new set of tyres & had 4 wheel alignment check. I asked for the wheel bearing to be checked,& all was fine.... Read more
Roll on, Thursday.
Let's see what they say. Actually, it was only the last service which was done independently, not that it will probably count in our favour....

I was loading my shopping area into the boot area and was holding some coins which slipped out of my hand and dropped into the area shown but when I tried to reach to reach the area there was some grease as my hand felt a bit oily. The inside part has a black painted metal with grease but concerned if it will cause the area to rust as I removed some grease and my hands had some moisture(water).

In have a problem with the V70 Radio which I don't understand. First of all, the cd player and AM radio work fine. Put FM radio on and nothing, sometimes if its been left on while driving it suddenly plays and goes off again. Its got me very puzzled,
Any suggestions please,... Read more
Are you sure the CD and AM are working through all speakers or just throuhgh the centre one and you have the FM in "Normal" stereo mode so the centre speaker will not be used?
Assuming it is the Dolby setup, there is an amp under the driver's seat which drives the left/right channels but the centre dash speaker is driven directly from the head unit....
Hmm, hybrid with a total of 161PS sounds interesting especially if it is a plug-in, I hope it goes into the Jazz and Civic. Current engines are distinctly lack-lustre since the demise of the 2.2 diesel and 2.0 petrol engines in Honda's small cars. Yet in Japan and the US they get some cracking motors. Otherwise we will have to wait for the turbo VTEC YO to spread from the Type R. They can keep their flipping CVT, though. Read more
Sure glad that Honda has produced the HR-V without a spoiler mounted midstream in the back window. This should satisfy a lot of us who are use to driving without having to look through a split back window and not able to see the full view.
Yeah, the Peugeot 508 looks good, but I am desperately waiting for the launch of its Exalt Concept car at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. Read more

Just to add to this, there is a squeak from the gearbox area when the pedal is released...which is weird because it has a hydraulic clutch and no cable surely?
