Volkswagen Golf - Alloys - chesterfieldhouse

My sons Mk 4 VW Golf (1.4) is coming up to needing a set of tyres & he wants to look at alloys. Nothing too ridiculous, 15 or 16 inch & probably VW's own. At present there are steel wheels with 175 x 80 x 14 tyres.

There is a set of alloys from a 1.6 Golf (Mk 4) with good 195 x 65 x 15 tyres, that have pleanty of tread & in good condition.

Will these be compatable?

What are the "rules" in terms of changing to bigger wheels/tyres/speedo etc?

Grateful for any advice.

You'll need to check the PCD, offset and centre bore of the new wheels are compatible with the car: www.wheelfitment.eu/

Check the new tyre size isn't too far removed from the existing: www.etyres.co.uk/tyre-size-calculator

Finally, tell the insurance company so they can increase the premium.

Alternatively stick with what's fitted. The car manufacturers don't spend £millions on research and development for no reason!
