Anyone seen this on More 4? Much better that a recent similar series with Philip Glennister although still having a hook for some human interest to keep the non-car enthusiasts happy.
This time a lot more detail into the problems faced and how they were fixed. However it gives the impression that the full restoration was done by two guys in three weeks. The credits at the end clearly show a team of five or six 'mechanics' and I do worry about splicing in lots of new sheet steel without reference to rust protection. Read more
I like the show but like many others think Tim is Johnathon Ross in disguise. Looked at his career has had more disasters than a kamakasi pilot.Kissing a car engine is infintile to say the least.
Fizz is great can mend my car any time. Why can't the producers have an intelligent presenter instead of such a clown as Tim.
In November 2013 a new clutch and cable was fitted to my 1990 VW Scirocco GTII. As of July 2014 the clutch cable snapped on five (5) occasions.
The car was returned three times to the garage to replace the cable, the second time a replacement clutch was fitted, (supposedly).... Read more
Check where the cable passes through the bulkhead. It's very common on these cars for the bulkhead to crack and break away. If you are suffering repeated clutch cable breakages then either the cable is getting caught somewhere or the clutch itself is stiff.
This story also came out in 2012 from the Sun. It was investigated by BBC's "More or Less" programme which said that with large increases in 30mph roads being converted to 20mph then the statistics were entirely predictable. It said that any conclusions regarding 20mph limits being more dangerous was "phonus ballonus" because it did not take into account the length of additional new 20mph roads and reduction in 30mph roads. The DfT does not record or issue these lengths.

The experience of localities like Islington and Bath is that drivers tend to ignore the limits.
Police forces like Kent have urged against 20mph zones, and Sussex have suggested that they won't police the zones with any priority. I think that this puts the idea into perspective....

Hi
I wondered where I can find case law relating to speeding precedent, etc. I am planning to represent myself in a not guilty speeding case. The allegation is that I was doing 46 in a 30, caught by hand held laser device at a distance of 275 metres.
Without going into huge detail, I'm interested to know the following:
1. How accurate are these devices at calculating speed and distance
2. Is there any guidance relating to where speed traps should be set up (I do not believe there have been any road accidents on the stretch of road where I was zapped - have asked via a FOI request)
3. Is there any guidance relating to proximity of the offending vehicle from a change in the speed limit / sign? I was on a rural road which is 60, then 50 for 3 miles, then changes to 30 way before the area becomes 'built up', but I was about 30m away from the sign (and 275m away from the officer)
4. Where would I find general guidance around speeding procedures? Are these force specific, or national? I live in Wales. There have been cuts to officer numbers, but it seems Policing financial pressures have resulted in an army of officers with lasers patrolling our rural roads.
Looking at cases where similar offences have been successfully challenged would be really useful - just not sure how to access such information.
Any guidance would be hugely appreciated.
James

A laser speed gun is accurate if used properly. If the unit is sighted on the road in front of the subject car and the beam is then slid onto the car the reading will be higher than the speed of the car - it's called slippage. Ok, all you have to do is prove that this happened, best of luck.
Hi guys I put a new clutch and flywheel in, all the bolts on flywheel and clutch plate were torqued to manufactures spec.
The new clutch kit was by LuK, the original Toyota one I took out also had LuK stamped on it. ... Read more
Hi peter 900 miles later, No more judder, Nice biting point too.
Our 57 plate 1.6 petrol Zetec Focus has long standing starting problem when both hot or cold but it is worse when hot, it turns over but will not fire.
Searching the internet these 4 causes seem common:
Fuel pump.
Engine temp sensor.
Crank position sensor.
UCU fault, might need a software update.
Have talked to a local garage the cheapest and easiest option seem to change both sensor and see it cures the fault.
What do you think? Read more
I would make a list, starting with the cheapest parts first, that may be the cause of your problem.I would then systematically replace each part until the problem is fixed, ending with the most expensive part,ie the engine.Realistically,a better option would be to take it to a specialist who is able to monitor what is going on with the engine control system and make an analysis of the fault. It may be nothing to do with the parts listed above. The local garage must be associated with the parts darts team.

I rather like the new VWs' look - Polo, Golf and now Passat.
The designs are nicely clean yet modern looking....
