1990 VW Scirocco GTII - Clutch cable breaking - chrishale478

In November 2013 a new clutch and cable was fitted to my 1990 VW Scirocco GTII. As of July 2014 the clutch cable snapped on five (5) occasions.

The car was returned three times to the garage to replace the cable, the second time a replacement clutch was fitted, (supposedly).

On the other two breakages the AA replaced the inner cable, but still the cable broke.

I suspect the garage failed to fit the cable correctly.

I have now made an appointment for a VW/AUDI specialist garage to appraise me of the fault. What is the possible fault and what is the specialist likely to recommend.

Check where the cable passes through the bulkhead. It's very common on these cars for the bulkhead to crack and break away. If you are suffering repeated clutch cable breakages then either the cable is getting caught somewhere or the clutch itself is stiff.
