Hi, My 1999 306 has again failed on emissions and I'm just not sure if it's going to be financially worth getting it fixed when the garage has said there's no guarantee it would pass even after work.

Would someone be able to look at the read out and give me some advice please?... Read more

"What a load of rubbish has appeared on here.It started off as petrol vehicle but diesels have appeared..."

It's not "a load of rubbish" - it's "thread drift". It happens and may be irritating to some. Like any conversation, it may wander from its starting point. It's moot point about how much drift is too much.

Unhappy With Dealers

I have had issues with the car and dealer since purchase in April 2014 and the dealer I bought it of has done nothing to repair or comunicte with me to get to a resoultion.

I have now written to them a rejection letter, so far they have not responded, they have until next Friday to do so. But I really am not expecting them to do so.... Read more

You seem to have been unlucky with this purchase, where the brand and the price asked may have raised your expectations to an unrealistc level. And the trader seems to be unreasonably unco-operative. On the other hand most 10-year-old cars would be entering banger territory and are likely to contain wear-and-tear faults.

You have presented your list of faults, but I feel it trivialises your case to mention a totally insignificant discrepancy in mileage. If you decide to 'take it to court' to make your point(s), first consider whether that may cost more than just getting the faults remedied?

hi all,

i've got a 98 fiesta with the 1.8 non turbo'd diesel engine, it's got the plastic inlet manifold, so no egr as i understand it.

when i accelerate there's a lack of power and a fair bit of black smoke. if you keep accelerating and get the revs up it clears, pulls pretty hard for what it is and the smoke disappears. with quick gear changes you can keep it pulling, but if you lift off it needs to be cleared again. i pulled the pipe off the air box to rule out the air filter and it's had a recent fuel filter.

i'm leaning towards a dodgy injector, but i'm not that clued up, any ideas?

I've been a believer in Millers Diesel Power Plus/Eco Max since I had a Scorpio diesel that would get progressively smokier until I dosed it, which would clear it out for a while - must have been the injectors sooting up, and it clearly improved it.

That was an old-style diesel - modern high pressure injectors are different but I have continued to use it, even though people tell me it's snake oil....

For any owners who didn't see Watchdog last night Citroen are offering to repay the costs of replacing the rear air suspension and pay for repairs on any car needing them replaced.

There are restrictions but it seems many owners will benefit. Read more

Hi John

I am keen on getting a Audi a4 s line 2008 onwards tdi model. looking to spend 10k

I have seen many examples on trader and elsewhere...couple of concerns hope someone can answer

when exactly does the cam belt, tensioners and water pump need changing on this car ? mileage wise

Are there any DPF issues I should be aware of ?

some of these cars seem like spaceships 4 year old models with 150,000+ miles on the clock, suspect they are sales people driving these up and down the country

is these anything specific I should be looking out for ?

the 2008 s line onwards didn't come with sat nav

Ultimately should I just go for a newer a4 with sat-nav SE model or buy the S line with better styling body kit.

Will a 10k Audi a4 with 80-90k on the clock live up to expectation in terms of reliability and life ?

Thanks in advanced

Yes, apologies streetlegal, my post went somewhat off-topic.

Oldtoffees advice is sound. I would personally forego the wheels and bodykit of the S Line for the SE for a less jarring ride....

I have a rover 25 with brake problems which has been fixed. The brake pedal would vibrate randomly when I applied the brakes and their would be a loud thumping noise as if the abs has been activated.
I replaced the cv joint on front wheels as the abs reluctor rings had split.

Best advice get kwik fit to do their free brake test. Most important is make sure they lift the car up, I was given abs ring split as potential advice from someone on this forum. When they lifted the car up , they did not find anything wrong, while the car was lifted I checked the abs rings myself and saw the split with a gap and told them if this was normal and whether it was causing the problem. They agreed. I changed it and so far no problems.

Hope this helps.

My car manual says "only use dot3 brake fluid and dexron 3 power steering fluid".Just checked the prices at the toyota dealership and they are too expensive;halfords don't seem to have any off these.Does anyone know where i can get these for cheap or any alternatives.

No Citroen uses DOT 5 fluid - the power braked Citroens use LHM (a died green light mineral oil) shared with the suspension system - modern Citroens with oleopneumatic suspension systems have conventional brake systems and the suspension uses (synthetic and very expensive) LDS. The Rolls Royces that share the Citroen suspension and brake systems also naturally use Citroen LHM for their suspension - as does the Mercedes Benz 450SEL 6.9.

Some Super DOT 4s (actually DOT 5.1) are also synthetic and will not damage paintwork - they can be freely mixed with traditional glycol-ether based DOT 3 and 4. Castrol Response (now called RS I think) is very good.

Have DAB in my 2013 Golf and like the extra station choices. Cover can be patchy at times as you drive round the UK. Was recently looking at Mazda CX-5 and not even an option, their view being they need to see if UK Government go DAB or DAB+ Read more

What a rip off! This car is way over valued. I look at VW cars and not all of them make me gobsmacked with lust over the way they are built. I think VW are greedy and need new designers for exterior and interior which will put passion back into the faces of the public who want to enjoy driving for a living. I mean for everyone. Read more
