HERE! I knew the tyres were getting to the end of their lives so I got down and had a feel, and actually I forget what the front ones were like tbh, because the rear ones, although they seemed reasonable when you looked at them, on the inside, the flipping metal mesh-type stuff was poking through! So that's why I was slipping all over in the wet, I thought.
Yes, yes, I know I should have checked earlier, don't all shout at once, I didn't say I was perfect did I?... Read more
Found these articles which dont portray Toyota in a good light. I wonder why this hasnt been more widely reported?

A city corporate lawyer once told me that US juries tend to base their decision on the one with most money has too pay, ie the manufacturer.
Vidio footage of an US incident with a driver who happened to be a policeman showed the car accelerating because the 'throttle was stuck' , then crashing - perhaps US cars are different but mine has a handbrake, brake pedal, and ignition switch....
I've read some horror stories about VW's DSG 7 gearbox. Drivers have reported total power loss experiences on motorways. Have VW really solved the problem by using mineral oil? Is it safe to buy a brand new vehicle with this gearbox? Read more
The warranty is not worth the paper it is written on, I pickecked up my car it had done 6,000 miles and was six months old i complained about dsg box to selling dealer inchcapes twice first answer it had to learn driving style second time did software update.

I will admit I have been spoilt with modern lorries for all of my career but then I got to drive a Dennis and it was like being given a truck from the 1950s. The mercedes lorries we have are so easy to drive and because of the low center of gravity and rear wheel steering they handle like a dream. My first time out in a Dennis was a eye opener you need to be on the ball all the time in one of those. The breaks are like milk bottel tops, the steering wonders needing constant correction and the have no tra traction control some of the drivers can't drive them they say they are to hard to drive. My only problem with them is that they are to uncomfortable to be sat in all day.
My Mazda 2.2d is now on it's third short engine in 107000 miles! The first one was replaced at 75000 miles under warranty, the second was definitely due to sludge in the oil blocking the pickup (which has been written about elsewhere in the forum), this happened at 97000 miles and now the crankshaft has broken(!!) at 107000 miles. Total running costs of a Mazda 6 now exceeding £6000 for the last 10,000 miles. Takes some beating? The car has a full main dealer service history.

I have spotted a vehicle I am interested in at Motorpoint but don't know much about them. Are they reputable and are there cars UK models rather than imports?
Any views would be very welcome thanks. Read more
The "brand new" cars they sell are normally imports. Simply ask them, they don't hide the fact.
The "used cars" they sell are mostly ex fleet or rental cars....
SWMBO went out one saturday evening in may to meet some colleagues for an after work drink in a hotel where we have been regular customers for a few years. (I did not go as Docs talking shop bores me)
Hotel has put up signs to say give your vehicle reg at reception or you will be fined. swmbo did not see them in the dark car park and missed the ones in the hotel entrance. Have now received a parking charge notice for £60.. Called and explained, told "tough" so said ok, but you know us, you know we are regular, have paid, because need to pay within the timescale or charge goes up.. Told Manager that would no longer spend our money in their establishment as 1 mistake over such a thing for parking 1 hour when a customer is not acceptable. They will lose far more than the £60 as we spend much more than that on each visit. Told "That is a threat". I said refund and we will spend that and much and more with you or goodbye.... Read more

All three are great cars, so any opinions would be very subjective.
Jag seem to have got their reliability issues sorted in recent years, the 6 series looks great and the E Class cabriolet just beat the new 4 series coupe in a What Car? test....

Thanks Gordon, nice one. Why did I not think of Subarus... right that's another load of Autotrader scouring to do...
