I have spotted a vehicle I am interested in at Motorpoint but don't know much about them. Are they reputable and are there cars UK models rather than imports?

Any views would be very welcome thanks.

Bought 2 x cars - both new imports from Cyprus - 2007 X-trail & 2012 CRV.

Most cars are UK ex-day rental. Fords/Vx.Hyundai/BMW/Audi................occasionally they have a small fleet of imported Toyotas, Hondas, Nissans etc with del miles.

I paid £13.3K+ T/I for a brand new CRV EX auto 20 mths ago. The very best Scottish dealer was £17.7K + T/I., one wanted £19.9K+T/i.

Car has been 100%.

You have a screen price and they add cleaning & admin £££s - just refuse. I got 50ltrs fuel on top. 7 yrs ago I negotiated £500 off their screen price after getting the best T/I figure, money off for proper mats etc- after agreeing to buy it took 1.5 hours to get the price down, mats etc

Thanks that's useful. Is there any way of telling whether a car is an import or UK Specification?

Over a decade ago now but my dad bought his Octavia from there. It was a brand-new car originally intended for the Irish Republic (as it had a CD player, not radio/cassette which would have been UK spec).

No problems at all and it saved a fair chunk of cash. They are quite clear about which cars are used and which are brand-new. The new ones tend to be oversupply from fleet orders, etc

This one isn't new but (as far as you can tell from the pics) looks decent and is low mileage. From that I am guessing it's ex-lease or ex rental but would like to know how you can validate a UK spec car rather than an import? Is it on the V5?

Ask them - they will say ex-fleet/rental or whether it is an import.

My CRV is a Euro Spec - the only differences were locking wheel nuts are UK Std but not on Irish / Cyprus - the std fit ones cost me £35 ish IIRC.

Warranty is 3 yrs 60K rather than 3 yrs/100K............but I do 8K to10K so no issue for me.

If buying ex-rental watch that the car has not exceeded the 12mths or mileage and not been done. An overdue service or non standard parts (such as filters/ wrong oil spec) breaks the warranty.

The "brand new" cars they sell are normally imports. Simply ask them, they don't hide the fact.

The "used cars" they sell are mostly ex fleet or rental cars.

Bought a Puma from them in 1999. It was a German import with zero miles. The spec was identical to the ones sold by UK dealers as was the warranty (1 year at the time). No problem with servicing and no problem sorting the one tiny warranty issue we had.with the local Ford dealer. He even replaced the German service book with an English one.

Saved over £3000 on the deal when we bought it, kept it almost 6 years and at that point not one single garage was interested that it was an import, condition was the only thing that mattered. One garage commented that as as long as it wasn't a Renault they would take it in PX.
