Sorry another what do I buy question from a newby....

I've got £3k to spend. I have to have an automatic as I've got nerve damage in my left leg and clutch control leaves me in agony. I would also prefer something with a bit of ground clearance as I live on a mountain up a badly maintained road with a lot of overhanging trees - my old Meganne acted like a snow plough sometimes. But don't need a 4x4 as I just don't venture out in bad weather!... Read more

Another Jimny vote - my brother and his Mrs live in rural Tuscany down a long steep track and have just got a new one. Its popular in rural Italy as a capable alternative to the Panda 4x4. Ignore the terrible UK motoring press reviews, they work in the favour of buyers.

The only real downsides reported by my brother so far are its pretty thirsty for a small car, and as you probably know there's very little space in the back. The upside is its a very capable "proper" 4x4 with low ratio gears that won't get stuck when most fashionable soft roader 4x4s would.

Failure car rolled into field garage not standing over the fault.
Left car parked 5 people got out 3 cricket bags removed 5 doors closed car remained stationary.
Was advised by a friend later that car was in middle of rugby pitch.
Garage and Vw not standing over it.
My point is car would have moved after 5 get out of car removed equipment and closed doors can didn't move.
Any help please Read more

Well that is simple to answer don't make cars for the road that can go over 100mph. Everyone is breaking the law and it is not a good feeling if you actually have a crash at that speed. Cars should be made to go at a speed and forget about what the driver wants to do, let the car or a car made for limits calculated for the road by road technology so they will not go over that limit. Everyone is rushing here and there and no thoughts for other people. Read more

MIGHT I ASK THAT ANYONE WHO POSTS TO THIS WEBSITE WITH PROBLEMS RELATING TO A VEHICLE WE HAVE FIXED OR ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF FIXING, THAT THEY GIVE ENOUGH INFORMATION THAT I BE ABLE TO GIVE A DETAILED RESPONSE. THIS DOESNT NECCESARILY MEAN THAT YOU ARE WRONG BUT IM SURE EVERYONE WILL AGREE THAT THERE ARE 2 SIDES TO EVERY STORY.

  • WE HAVE THOUSANDS OF SATISFIED CUSTOMERS AND WILL WILLINGLY SUPPLY TRADE OR CUSTOMER REFERENCES FROM PEOPLE IN YOUR AREA TO VERIFY
  • WHEN THERE ARE PROBLEMS SOURCING PARTS OR A VEHICLE ARRIVES WITH PARTS MISSING, WE SUPPLY FREE COURTESY CARS
  • REMEBER AN ENGINE FAILURE IS NEARLY ALWAYS A SECONDARY REACTION TO A PRIMARY PROBLEM, SOMETIMES THIS ISNT ALWAYS APPARENT ESPECIALLY WHEN YOUR VEHICLE ARRIVES WITH US IN BITS AND ALREADY DIAGNOSED, AN EXAMPLE IS HEAD GASKET FAILURES ARE SOMETIMES CAUSED BY BLOCKED RADIATORS ETC ETC
  • WE HAVE 10 CUSTOMERS A WEEK AND HAVE BEEN TRADING FOR OVER 15 YEARS. CIRCA 8000 ENGINES FITTED, WE HAVE POSSIBLY 20 NEGATIVE FEED BACK ON THE INTERNET OF WHICH HALF IS MALICIOUS NONSENSE, THIS EQUATES TO LESS THAN A HALF A PERCENT
  • OLD CARS ARE GETTING NEWER INCREASINGLY MOST OF THE ENGINES WE FIT ARE SECONDHAND UNITS WITH PROVEN PROVENANCE. THIS DOESNT DETRACT FROM WHAT WE OFFER. AN EXAMPLE IS A 4 CYLINDER PETROL VW ENGINE, REMOVING THE CRANK FROM THE BLOCK RENDERS THE ENGINE U/S AND THIS INFO IS FROM THE MANUFACTURER. YET I STILL SEE SO CALLED RECON ENGINES FOR THESE VEHICLES FOR SALE. MOST CYLINDER BLOCKS FOR PETROL ENGINES ARE NOW MADE FROM A CAST ALLOY 90% OF FAILURES IN THIS TYPE OF ENGINE RENDER THEM SCRAP/ IMPOSSIBLE TO REMANUFACTURE. THE NEW GENERATION OF DIESEL ENGINES ARE NOW GOING THE SAME WAY VERY SOON YOUR ONLY OPTION WILL BE SECONDHAND
  • WE NEVER TELL YOU WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR, WE REGULARLY ADVISE CUSTOMERS NOT TO REPAIR THERE VEHCILES. WHAT YOU PAID FOR YOUR CAR IS IRRELEVANT ON THE DAY YOU NEED AN ENGINE, ALL THAT MATTERS IS WHATS THE CAR WORTH AS IT STANDS, WHAT IS IT GOING TO COST TO FIX AND WHAT ARE THE ONGOING RUNNING COSTS LIKELY TO BE. OBVIOUSLY THE OLDER THE CAR THE LESS LIKELY ITS WORTH FIXING?

PLEASE TRY US IF YOU NEED AN ENGINE , NO MONEY UPFRONT AND WE ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS Read more

PETER 4768

Hi

All the heads are not the same, some have a pulley driven brake pump and some have pumps driven straight off the camshaft, some have a header tank return pipe coming straight off the casting and some dont, the basic rule of thumb is, if it looks the same then it will work...

Anyone knows why there was a reduction (or increase) in the offset (ET) of Vectra B from 39 to 49? The change seem to have occurred in 1999. All Vectra B post 1999 are with offset 49, while all before 1999 are with offset 39. Has it helped in increasing the tire width? Or handling? Any experience of the biggest tire width used successfully on Vectra B? Read more
