We had a 2005 Focus C-Max 1.6 TDCi for 5 years. In that time all it had was an annual service, MOT, tyres and an alternator belt. Probably the cheapest car to run we have ever owned. Never let us down. Superb drive for a tall(ish) car with a comfy ride and plenty of space for 5 people and a sensible amount of luggage.

When we changed we tried a Toyota Verso. It was a horrid wallowy drive and the 2.0 litre diesel was very little (if any) quicker than the 1.6 in the C-Max....

On eBay a couple of years back, someone had crowbarred a Toyota straight-6 diesel into a Jensen Interceptor :-(((

However, it would be interesting to try dropping one of the V8 turbodiesels from the Range Rover into a Jensen .... more power and torque than the original 383 / 440cui petrols and twice as many miles per gallon!...

I have just received a report from Honda when my car bumper was repaired in May that the brake pads are approx 80% worn at the front and 50% at the rear.

When it was serviced in March the pads were approx 75% (front) 25% (rear). I am a little concerned that they seem to have gone down by what appears to be a lot in two months. I am about to travel to Cornwall and wondered if I needed to get the brakes pads replaced.... Read more

It's an automatic so you will be using the brakes to a greater extent than if the car was a manual so they are going to wear out the pads quicker-it's your choice-but remember there are a lot of hills in Cornwall.

Hi there BillyWhizz,

am just encountering exactly same problem (battery disconnected at garage and no radio code in Mondeo Tdci 2006) I wonder if you - or anybody else - could explain how you got the radio out of the dash to find the part code. It all looks very "built in" !!...

A man offered to buy my car while I was sprucing it up at the garage to take for an MOT. After a lot of faffing around I agreed to sell it to him. I signed the V5C/3 and he said he would fill out his address. Didn't have my glasses and when I got home I realised he hadn't filled out his street address - just an odd name and a postcode. Have I been stupid and am I in trouble? Very grateful for any advice. Read more

Use the postcode finder on www.royalmail.com to find the houses listed under that postcode and it may make sense.

Hi wonderif anyone else has had issues with DPF (sensor showing electrical malfunction) (Audi A4 - 2008) The light came on and warranty refused to cover it,i argued it wasnt a part of the DPF but simply a sensor which i feel is part of the Engine management system to flag up issues, the DPF was fine it was the sensor that was at fault. Is it worth taking further ??

Kind Regards... Read more

I suppose it depends on a few matters.

1. The exact wording of the warranty....

Hi all, heard of this site and hope I can get advice/help with really upsetting problem.

I bought my car from CarWorld Supermarket in Peterborough coming up 2 months ago. I had a problem with no sound so passed it into my local Porsche/BMW specialists to check. They advised me it is a pretty common fault with the six series that the drain holes in the boot get blocked and then it gets flooded and damages the modules in the boot. I have 3 water damaged modules and they are quoting £3400 (incl VAT) and at a (IMHO) fair rate of £65 per hour to purchase new modules from BMW and fit (I have used these guys loads and trust implicitly btw). The oil pump had also gone which cost me another £800 as well. ... Read more

I need some advice on buying a car for my daily commute. I have a Citroen C3 Airdream 1.6 Diesel that I was using for the last 3 years (20K miles every year) with an average mileage of 55-60MPG at speeds 70-90MPH. My daily journey is 50 miles + 50 miles (only on motorway and A roads) and I'm quite satisfied with my current car except manoeuvres. Now as my wife got her license I'm giving her my current car and planning to buy another car for my purpose. Basically I need a slightly bigger saloon car with the same performance as my current C3.

My requirements (in the order of preference)... Read more

Well, this was not on my list initially. I have test driven some of the other vehciles but felt a Saloon would be too big for just myself since I'll be using mostly for office commute. So the obvious choice was to look for a Coupe with good mpg and I have reviewed Audi TT, VW Scirocco and Peugeot RCZ. Anyways overall I'm satisfied with the RCZ :)
