We are in search of a new car which can fit 3 child car seats in the second row. I want a 7 seater MPV to have some extra seats, husband prefers a big estate. Anyway we both assumed that fitting the 3 seats was a matter of available space rather than regulations or safety, until I saw that for the new Zafira Tourer the manual expressly prohibits installing even a booster on the middle seat. Kind of takes away the purpose of this car, really!
Anyone saw this on any other "family" cars? Apart from the obvious safety concern I am worried there may be some catch for the insurance etc if you go ahead and put 3 seats against the manufacturers advice. We are considering Seat Alhambra, VW Sharan, Ford S Max, Peugeot 5008, Renault Grand Espace, or perhaps Kia Carens. Would be grateful for your experience and advice! Read more
As I was driving, gone about 5 miles when the warning lights between mph + rpm above the clock came on, trans, parking, steering lock, and abs, also the wipers won't switch off and the I drive tells me there a seat belt problems and egnition problems, surely there must be a short but how do I find it, I have been told that diagnostics will achnolege the fault but not locate the short. Has any one had a similar experience. Read more
Agreed. Auto electrician or BMW indie.
I got stopped for no road tax last November and received the court summons on may 19th and had since forgotten about it. I received a letter from the Court today with a fine, I had missed the court date on the 11th and as a result my fine has exploded to £548 (£400 fine, £58.34 back duty and £90 costs) for no road tax from June til November last year.
I was told by a friend that if I complete a statutory declaration that I did not receive the summons, the court date would be rescheduled (as it is within 21 days of the court date) to another date in which i will plead guilty and pay the fine as it was initially intended.
I want to reset the court date and pay the fine immediately, and have since booked in to my local magistrates for the coming Friday.
I understand there are large consequences with lying while making a statutory declaration. How likely is it and how strongly are they going to question whether or not i received the summons, given that in any case I simply cannot prove something that I did not receive.
Appreciate all the feedback. Cheers Read more
A duty is a still a duty even if people choose to call it something else Same with the "Bedroom Tax" - it is an under-occupation levy.
Just a reminder to drivers when they stay at the Trowell M1 Northbound Travelodge. Beware of the mistake that can easily be made when arriving at this Travelodge. You SHOULD be told by the receptionist to register your car number at the desk, if you are not informed, the following happens:- You receive a Charge Notice from CP Plus a demand for payment of £100 for parking on MOTO land, you then have to go through the hassle of proving to CP Plus that you were parked in the marked bays outside the Travelodge , and a bona fide guest at the Motel.

We had a short break in Newquay the other week, virtually every B & B advertised free WiFi.
I guess most of the customers there are young and expect to have the facility.

I agree - try to steer clear of the small wheeled machines - life on a small underpowered two wheeler is dangerous enough without having the ability to handle potholes.
That said the thelf of manhole covers is on the rise for "some reason" (we all know why) hit one of those and it's hospital time for you big or small-wheeled. ...

I have two Ford Fiestas, both 1242cc 16v and year 2000 and have owned both since they were 3-4 years old. I have been very pleased that by giving the aircon a blast at least once a month right through the year, both still had effective air con despite never being re-gassed in over 11 years............until now.
I notice that the aircon compressor clutch is not engaging when I press the button. The fuse is OK, I haven't yet done any further electrical checks. The refrigerant pressure is in the middle of the range on a Halfords DIY re-gassing kit unit, so it doesn't look like it's low pressure that's preventing the compressor cutting in.... Read more
And warn them you've used DIY kit on it before their equipment is ****ed!

Good to know Happy Blue! We have been looking at around 3 year old cars and they are discounted at about 50-55% of the initial price, but had a fair amount of wear already, or some hidden issues.
I think we have a few test drives ahead :)
