Good Morning, I am crying our for some help and advice......

I bought my Mondeo about 12 months ago from a car dealer. for the first 3 months we had no issues at all,. but then all of a sudden we would find the glow plug light flashing, and no turbo, after looking through all the forums, decided i would clean the egr valve, which was gunked.

I finally took it back to the dealer to have a look at, who said he cleaned the turbo. the car was ok for a few days and then the same fault's, I continued to drive the car for a while whilst i did more research and found some pennies to resolve the issue. all of a sudden the errors cleared from the dashboard.

We then noticed a lack of drive, although we had turbo wit was very sluggish, after investigating i found the intercooler plpe split, last saturday i replaced the turbo pipe to find a big 8 inch split in the pipe. The car had run absolutley fantastic for 2 days, then i used the car for the school run to fin the EML andf the glow plug light flashing again?

I have tried to explain the best i can, as i understand it cant be the turbo as it worked fine for 2 days when i had the pipe fixed.

Question is what is it and will it fail the MOT i have in 15 days with the 2 lights showing on the dash?

HELP!!!!!! Just an edit to this additional post,

When the engine is first started, the Glow plug light is off then if i rev to 2k the light starts flashing.? not sure whether this has any significance

Thats now way to test it you need a a proper injection turbo company to check it properly ,if you place your fingur on the actuator arm and press in the direction that it moves you can sometimes simulate its correct movement but not always.

The actuator and turbo are bought as one piece very expensive from Ford or Jaguar If you do need to buy one they are around 675 plus vat in the UK if you shop around around 2grand from Ford. Its a Garet turbo and I thing its a Mernello actuator.

cluelessw/cars

As my name suggests I am clueless when it comes to cars and this is why I get nervous when it comes to taking it to a garage.
Looking for some opinions so maybe I know a little before taking it in.

My car failed its mot before I bought it ( performed by a second hand car sales) because of something to do with the brakes but they fixed it all up to pass worthy. About a month ago my park/ brake light on the dash kept randomly coming on so I took it in ( to the same place as I was under warranty) and they told me it was because of a switch to do with the handbrake. Only a couple of weeks later it's coming on again especially when I am breaking more harshly ( like slowing down after coming off the motorway etc) and I am also hearing a 'cccccccCCccccCCcc' noise. Is this a switch again? Or something else? Should this of been picked up on when I took it in a month ago? I only bought it and had its MOT at the end of October...

Any opinions would be much appreciated. Thankyou Read more

The dash light on some cars tells you that the pads are worn out.

The noise you are hearing is possibly metal to metal if the pads are worn out....

Just had a look at my rear bumper and there is a slight scuff mark which has broken the paint on the near side of the bumper, probably done in a car park by someone! Had an estimate for the scuff repair and respray for @ £325 does this seem reasonable? The estimate is from a reputable repair centre which is approved by VW. Not decided as yet, whether to get it repaired or take the hit when I trade the car in in around 12-18 months time. Read more

I scuffed my front bumper, perfect smart repair cost me £80. Watched him do it and he was very methodical and I was impressed.

I went for a local one (not one of the franchises) with a website full of testimonials and examples of work. A lot of them quote off a picture message

This car has just gone through its first MOT.There was an advisory note on an engine oil leak on drivers side.Haven`t been under to have a look yet but engine bay is splatter-free.Didn`t take it in myself but MOT chap said it had sprayed about a bit underneath....like leaks do.

Does anyone know if this model is prone to any leaks please?...front engine oil seal etc??... Read more

I wondered if anyone had any ideas about the cause of the problem that my
wife has been experiencing with her 54 reg Peugeot 206.

The problem is that after she has been driving for say about 20 minutes
or so, and then gone shopping for about 30 minutes the engine will not
start.
Waiting in the car for about 5 minutes and then trying again, the engine
does start and the car is fine.

We took it into our local, competent garage, and their electrician said
that "his meter" had registered two possible faults, the first was that
a new coil pack could solve the problem, so we had this fitted.

The same problem occurred again, and the garage cannot seem to replicate
the problem, telling us that "the car starts every time". We know that
it does from cold, but not when warm.
The second suggestion was that we have the ECU replaced, an option that
we does not appeal owing to it's cost and the fact that there is no
guarantee that this would solve the problem either.
The car is spending the weekend at the garage, where, on Monday morning
there will, no doubt be more scratching of heads! Read more

Hi,

I have a 2003 Mondeo TDCi. A few weeks ago the glow plug light started flashing and it became difficult to start from cold as if the glow plugs aren't working. It was running really rough with a lot of knocks and shaking. I had the codes read and there was a problem with injector 2. I got a replacement from my local scrap dealer and got my local garage to fit it. This cured the running problem, the car now has lots of power and runs better than ever when it's up to temperature. The glow plug light is still flashing however and it's still difficult to start from cold and there's a bit of diesel knock until it warms up. I got an F Super to read the codes myself. It reads the live data fine, I've checked all of the injector codes but there are no DTC's. After looking on various forums I've changed the cam sensor and the diesel filter to no avail. It doesn't have the common problems of cutting out when giving it the beans. Has anyone got any ideas other than torching the thing? Read more

Thanks RT. Can you offer any advice on how to check the voltage to the glow plugs? Do you know where the temperature sensor is?

Hi, I have bought a car today, drove it 28 miles to a supermarket and went shopping. Came back out after approx 45 minutes and the car would not start. Had to call out breakdown and he managed to get it started but only after about 2 hours later. Drove it home about 7 miles, tries to start it again and it just turned over until the battery started to go flat. Left it for another couple of hours, hooked it up to jump start it and it eventually started again, let it run for 10 minutes or so, stopped it and then it wouldnt start again. The seller is also not being very helpful. Any ideas on what it could be? Read more
