Very odd fault this one. The car accelerates fine, but at around 2200 RPM when cruising at a constant speed the engine hunts/judders almost as if it's misfiring. You can feel it, and the rev counter shows it with revs moving 100 above and below mean.
All seems fine at higher and lower revs. I've checked breather hoses, plugs, wiring, cleaned MAF etc. Any ideas? I'm at a loss with this one! Read more
Have you ever damaged your car by hitting a creature?
I ran over a dead pheasant today which I have never done before in my MX-5 (not that I made a habit of it in my previous vehicles). It was on the motorway and it made the most horrible thump noise and a jolt. I checked my tyres and underneath the car when I pulled off the motorway and there's no damage, but it worried me as the sound was so sickening!... Read more
many years ago, I was hitchhiking, and a BRS lorry stopped, took me on my way, on the A41 just north of wolverhampton a pheasant flew in through the drivers window. that was a bit scary, but the driver stopped safely and shushed it out .
Hi
On Sunday I did a deal on a landrover discovery at Evans halshaw in Plymouth. I agreed a part ex value, signed all the paperwork....deal done.
However I am due to swap my golf for the discovery tomorrow morning, tonight I hit a rock and damaged the front of the car.
Where do I stand now? I am thinking of just going in and telling them the deal is off as its not worth the hassle, I'm assuming and quite rightly the dealer will now de value my car......but not wanting to have the mickey taken out of me?
Any ideas what my position is? And what there likely to try?
Best regards

Just be up front and honest with them. You say you're prepared to take a hit or walk away from the deal, so you've plenty of room to manoeuvre.
I guess it'll cost you less than £100.

Hello,
Have you got experience of anyone snapping the little coolant pipe which protrudes and attaches to a flexible pipe on the front left of the head just above
the glow plug which resides behind the injector pump on a Peugeot 405 XUD
engine?
It snapped off earlier today whilst replacing plugs - it must have
been very ripe because I was careful not to exert any pressure on it,
but it went anyway (corroded copper perhaps). I did not have any
materials to create a stent or sleeve a repair to the pipe, so I
blocked both ends of the pipe.
So now I presume that coolant is not circulating the head correctly
(if at all). The car runs fine and the general coolant temperature has
not been adversely affected. My super reliable car has done 210K and
now I only drive short distances (8 miles or so to work) so I do not
expect the head to suffer adversely (as it will never get too hot)
while I determine if I can source a replacement pipe or effect a
repair or leave it?
There are two allen bolts which secure a frame that presents this
little outlet pipe (which sheared off flush), I suspect that this
little module may be replaceable if I can get hold of one from the
scrapper. I suspect the whole pump will need to be removed to get to
the lower bolt and fit it though...
I would like to know if this has happened to anyone else and what they
did if anything to resolve it.
Update:
In chatting with friends I have determined that I probably need to see if I can fit a bleed nipple in there so the thread will hold it in place under pressure (probably only around 12 p.s.i) and if I drill it out, it will always allow the flow (which may just be for bleeding and equalising rather than cooling) regardless of how much I manage to screw the nipple in.
Thoughts would be most welcome - particularly if anyone knows what that pipe is exactly for... thank you.
regards,
Kev

I don't think you will do it any harm, you may have a problem if you drain and refill it though. The safest thing to do is release the air behind the thermostat, I think there is a plug in the housing that you can unscrew, or at least there was on a ZX I did a little while ago.

I wonder if anyone can help me to locate a handbook for 05 Streetka? Recently bought the car but didn't receive a handbook. I've tried Ebay and Amazon with no luck. I've been researching this and have discovered that you can't get a Haynes manual either. So---
if work needed to be done can you use a Haynes KA manual?... Read more
No - I'll give that a try first. Thanks!

I think that's the most likely explanation! Anyway thanks for sharing it with us - it raised a smile.
