Yellow engine diagostic lamp stayed on over two days at each and every start. It then cleared; a week later it has not recurred. I have had the codes read by M-B of Poole, It is P200671 The charge movement flap (cylinder bank 1) is jammed closed. The actuator is blocked. Status S. They want the car back for further investigations. The status of regeneration is given as 'Normal operation without regeneration of diesel particulate filter'.
What happened and what is the cure please? Read more
Last night the temperature gauge on my nine year old Golf failed to register. There was no problem with the coolant level. On the return journey there was the same problem but after about 10 miles the gauge suddenly registered correctly.
There is no point in taking the car to a garage with a non existant problem but I wonder what could have happened and am I likely to break down without warning?... Read more
Many thanks but the garage has now replaced the sensor so I am just waiting to see if there are any more problems.
Hi. This evening my van cut out at a t-junction and would not start. It turns over ok but will not run. I called breakdown firm and they said it's probally the stop valve on pump or maybe fuel filter clogged. The cambelt was done about 14 months ago and he said it wasn't that.
He sprayed some stuff in the air filter and it almost started but wouldn't run. No warning light's on dashboard come on. Eventually got towed home. Tried to start again at home and and it nearly started. Just wondered if any one has any other views before i start to investigate the problem. Thank's for any info. Sparky 100. Read more
I have the cut out problem on my Corsa 1.7dti isuzu engine. It happened on a long journey and we managed to get it home by taking the top off the fuel filter taking it out and putting it back. It would then run for about half an hour before it did it again. We were very careful not to lose the little spring that is in the top of the fuel filter assembly. On my Corsa this just hangs down and presses on the fuel filter. Having looked at a you tube video of the fuel filter being replaced no account of this spring is given at all. I think there could be a part missing although the car has run well for well over a year.

Hi,
My left rear indicator has failed (fast clicks). I checked the bulb and that's good. I wiggled the connector between the light unit and the wiring harness and it seem to intermittantly fix the problem. AHA! a connector problem, says I. I tried to isolate the problem by:... Read more
Forgot to mention that I managed to get Peugeot to pay for most of the repair at the main dealers who cut the wiring harness when it was in the workshop so my partner had to go ahead with a new back light and harness.
Didn't see this post until it was too late.
But another characteristic of these cars is the flooded fuse board as the ingress strangely comes from failed washer pumps feeding water up the supply cables somehow by osmosis from the wheel arch.
A general comment that may assist others, regading warning light resets. In my case I have a recurring issue with the Emission Warning Light on my 2007 Suzuki SX4 1.6 (petrol). This has been a trouble free vehicle from new, but over the past year and a bit the EWL comes on about every two to three months, the code delivered indicates a generic "cat failure" code. The vehicle gets through the emission tests at the MOT no problem. The issue is not unique to my vehicle it seems to be a general "false positive" on Suzukis that should probably reset automatically but doesn't always do so. I have paid to get the light reset each time and thought I should have a go at fixing it myself at the next event. This happened last week so I went on line and found the Autel MS300 Scan Tool with several U-Tube reviews that said it works for resets and it's simple to use. So I bought one, and it does as it says on the tin. Cost £14.19 to the letterbox (Digi2013 UK on Amazon.
this would be my train of thought, more likely to be a sensor or connection to a sensor than the cat.
Hello, my Skoda Superb has just developed an annoying fault. Using the remote, the passenger front door lock does not always unlock and the button stays down. After the engine has started it usually can be unlocked using the master switch at the drivers door, but needs several tries at locking then unlocking before releasing and the button coming up. Also sometimes when locking using the remote the same door does not lock and button stays up, but can be depressed manually and the door then locks. This weekend the drivers side rear door decided not to lock on the remote either, but does lock when manually depressed.Sometimes all works well, but lately it is troublesome more often than not. Is there any repair or remedy I can undertake or is it new parts required? The car is 2005 1.9 PD Tdi. Advice appreciated.
Thanks Concrete Read more
Hello,
like Conrete my 2012 superb has also developed an ennoying fault with its os rear door not locking, when I say not locking I mean not locking from the key fob, or if I use the central control switch on the drivers door to manually lock the doors....
My car sudderly started playing up on starting yesterday, needed churning over for long period befor firing up but then run absolutly fine. Today will not start at all. Have plenty of diesel and fuel filter was chaanged less than 1K miles ago. I dissconnected fuel supply from inlet manifold heater and turned engine over, plenty of fuel coming thro line. Vehicle has only done 62K miles so guess injectors do not need changing, anyway this is so sudden. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Last year when my 57 Reg Audi A3 was being serviced I was lent an A4 as a courtesy car. It had an electric handbrake which after nearly 40 years of driving with manual handbrakes I found a complete nightmare. I put this down to never having used one before and found myself holding the car on the clutch as I had no confidence in the electric handbrake. I am considering purchasing a new shape A3 and my understanding is it has this confounded electric handbrake as standard without the option of a manual handbrake. My question is to any drivers who own an Audi with an electric handbrake are these electric handbrakes reliable and maintenance free as I have read some worrying reviews about burnt out clutches and cars running down hills when parked and if they are perfectly o.k. is it just a case of getting used to them. I've had two audis with the epb. Both have worked fine although I tend to only keep the cars for 3 years. No doubt if it does go wrong it will cost a lot more to fix than a conventional cable, but let's face it if your worried about that you need to rule out anything fancy and buy the most basic car going. No led drls, climate control units etc.
As far as functionality goes I find it works very well. The wife loves it as she dislikes hill starts.
The comment about warranties is perhaps a little unfounded. Toyota only fairly recently started offering a 5 year warranty. I guess they are not as confident in there product as Kia?. I think it's more to do with what they feel they can get away with in each country. Notably skoda which someone has already suggested do very well in customer satisfaction surveys but only offer a 3 year warranty.
Finally have a look at the new Leon. As an audi fan I sat in one the other day and was impressed.
Hi. Both my wifes car(1.2tsi Fabia), 35000miles, just under 3yrs old, and mine(1.8tsi Octavia, 8000miles,2yrs old, have both started using a fair bit of oil. I bought my car having been impressed with the smooth good performing engine of the 105bhp Fabia, so am rather concerned at the oil consumption, especially as iv'e only had mine for 3months. Both appear to use at least 1ltr between inspections, roughly 2 months. Is this normal for a tubo petrol engine?, have any other Skoda owners of these tsi engined cars experienced similar issues?.
Many thanks... Read more

Halfords will change your bulbs for £6 plus. I can change a headlight on mine in about 2 minutes...some folks must pay it though.

Might be £6 but I have no issue with that!. My headlight bulbs are fiddly to fit and require 30 minutes of my time and patience. I'm happy to pay done one six pounds for that.
Let's face it we regularly pay people far in excess of that for an hours labour. Think car garages!.
