Hi
At my last MOT I was given an advisory with regard to wear in the Wishbone/Anti-roll bar bushes. I can hear no clunking etc front the front of the vehicle when driving over rough ground. Any thoughts on this matter please ! ... Read more

Hello,
81,000 miles clocked up, should the toothed belt be changed? Is this the same as a timing belt?
What is this likely to cost?
Many thanks in advance for any advice offered,
John Read more
'Toothed belt', also known as Cam belt.
As has been said, it's good practice to change the water pump at the same time, and also the 'toothed belt' tensioner pulley, as if either of these fails shortly after the belt has been changed, the job will have to be done again. If the auxilliary belt (drives the alternator, power steering pump, air conditioning pump) has to come off to do the job, then it's a good idea to replace that too.

i am about to order a hire car and book a ferry crossing for December.... Read more
"We are fans of wine from the Rhone region.
Are all the hypermarkets at Calais to be avoided?"
It all depends on how much you intend buying really. If you are only buying a couple of cases then any Hypermarket will do whether at Calais or not. Generally speaking buying wine in French hypermarkets is not as cheap as it used to be. However they do have wine fairs fairly regularly and if you find one on whilst you are there it is worth a look. Of course it also depends on your taste and budget. You can still buy a drinkable bottle from around £3 but if you desire a well known or respected vintner then the saving is not so great. A middle of the road bottle on offer in a UK supermarket is not that much cheaper in France. To give you an idea of costs take a look here www.majesticwinecalais.co.uk .like everywhere else though you do get what you pay for.
Hi all - my rear wiper arm was yanked by the weight of snow in March so the car looked like a dog with it's tail between its legs...fortunately, it wasn't completely broken, so I was able to put it back to its proper position and tighten the bolt back.
Unfortunately, today's high wind and rain on a motorway journey finally did for it, and the whole arm snapped off near the base. My questions are: can I just replace the wiper arm or will I have to replace the whole unit including the motor? also, am I just as well getting one from a car breakers, or better to get a good quality replacement that might last what this coming winter throws at it?... A timely reminder for everyone - don't use your wipers to clear snow load, they aren't designed for it. Use a brush or scraper first. Very expensive mistake if you knacker the front mechanism!!
Anyway - arm or spindle?? I would try eBay for a breaker if it's the latter, new from dealer for the former.
Which Auto transmission Fluid should I use?. The owners Handbook does not mention it, or the Hains Manual.

In needed to top up my 4.5 litre sump with oil and managed to pick the wrong container and put in about a mugfull of antifreeze. Shall I drive it to my nearest dealer (6 Miles) and have the oil changed or drive normally and hope it dissipates in normal running? Early onset Alzheimers!!!! Read more
Sorted - £55 parts and labour; nothing wrong with what was drainbed but was told it could have emsulsified or broken down in some way or other so, peace of mind and ready for the winter!
After standing for a while as no longer needed for commuting, I was about to put the battery back on the car, when I found the passenger carpet was wet.
That led to discovering water in the fusebox!
I cleaned all the places, gutters, etc under the bonnet yesteray hoping that I was solved. However, after a night of heavy rain I've found that the A pillar is actually wet, almost from the top.
Hhhmm, dare I risk trying to get the A pillar cover off, bearing in mind there's an airbag in there?
Not sure what I would find / be able to do re fixing a leak? Is there a sealant inside maybe?
The car doesn't have a sunroof - Googling shows a lot of people get leaky sunroof drains.
The windscreen appears to be original as it has 'BMW' on it at the bottom. Read more
If the A pillar trim is wet at the top, then rain can only enter from the windscreen or top of door glass rubber seal.Get somebody to spray a hose over the area to see if any leaks develop. The a post trims only clip on (may be a screw behind the airbag motif)but getting them back can be a fiddle.
I hope someone can shed some light on this problem my van is running on lpg and petrol at the same time and costing a fortune! It running on a brc system and has done 86000 miles. It was serviced about15000 miles ago please help! Read more
As said it could have a gas leak, but it would be a sizeable leak and the smell around the vehicle when running/leaking would be unmistakeable, propane stinks.
Unless you're a good mechanic this is not something to play about with, i would find the nearest competent LPG workshops and get them to sort it.
Looking for a good VW expert close to Coventry as just moved to the area. The listers VW seems fine, except for the prices are a rip off! Read more
iAuto in Coventry. I've used them once for a cambelt change on my Golf. They bill themselves as a VW specialsit amongst others.
For more specialsit stuff, Stealth Racing in Southam are good, but maybe a little expensive for servicing etc...
They do not always clunk when they are worn drop links tend to make a noise but wishbone bushes even when worn tend to give no noise.I do not know if you can get bushes for the
wishbone seperate generally its better to get the unit complete with bushes already installed antiroll bar bushes are generally bonded to the metal bar but if you can get them seperate its an easy job to change them..You do not say whether it is front or back the fronts are a bit more problamatic then the rear.
