I recently purchased an Audi A4 Avant from The Car Shop in Norwich.

The dash-board has been informing my that the Day-time running lights weren't on. I didn't have a problem with that, and used the car as normal. However, after a couple of weeks I went into the menu to turn these lights on, mainly to get rid of the warning. The menu had this option switched on.... Read more

Hi,

I have an S Max 2011 plate from new. My problem is that, this is the 3rd or 4th time that the tailgate lock has ceased to work. As soon as you shut it, it pops open again AND if you cannot get into the car quickly and shut and lock all doors, it opens again. ... Read more

Remove Mann filter, replace with Ford-approved one, take it to Ford garage down the road.

Excellent solution!

When will the fuel companies here pass on relatively quickly, reduced pump prices as the cost of crude continues to drop.

In the U.S. they report that since Sept. 5th., a gallon of petrol has dropped 26c with an anticipated further 20c expected by Christmas. They expect a gallon to fall below $3 everywhere. In some states it is already $2.99.... Read more

Even though there is huge tax on the retail of road fuel, don't forget that a raft of additional taxes were introduced upstream too, so the whole thing and us are being taxed to the edge.

I also saw a programme on TV, that showed that a £4 bottle of wine only has 20p of wine in it as there is a £3.80 tax, duty and bottling overhead which has to be met before the actual wine is paid for. This is all paid out of income already taxed at 25%....

As the Mechanic says, you will not keep rainwater (or carwash water) out of the door. You can only make sure that it can get out easily at the bottom. Poke something soft (e.g.plastic or wooden) up all the drain holes, and check that any weatherseals don't cover the holes as the door closes.

That is not strictly true, there are companies who have no market value clause what so ever however if you read the ALA is not one of them. If you read the policy their terms state that if you accept an offer which is less than market value that they do not have to pay you any more and their liability will not increase.
They may well pay from the insurance companies settlement however that is not what the terms and conditions say.
Small point but also the FOS changed to the FCA in April this year. Read more

The Bias & 1 sided approach of the FOS is very evident
& clear.

They preach they are industry funded, ignoring that our

Following on from the learners first car thread, can I ask for opinions on the pros and cons of a learner purchasing and insuring their own car as opposed to passing their test first and then doing it.

I've heard that doing the former, with a parent as a named driver can be a very good way of getting premiums down a bit at the same time as building a NCD but would welcome more feedback.... Read more

Since you haven't got a head gasket its clear to me the head is off the car so no need to talk about putting oil down a plug hole.

When I have had the need to check combustion chamber volumes in the past I made a simple piece of perspex with 2 holes in it, on to put the thin oil in and one to let any air out. You could no doubt do exactly the same on top of a piston, no surface tension to worry about then....
