My automatic 2000 Vectra 2.5 V6 Arctic Automatic occasionally conks out when slowing down. The engine cuts out and I lose control of the steering. I've also noticed that the engine management light occasionally comes on from time to time and then goes out again. The engine management light doesn't come on before the engine cuts out though.
I've been checking the service history of my car and the last service before I bought the car (carried out at a a Vauxhall specialist) mentions that the specialist checked the problem of the car cutting out and advises that the P0100 mass air flow sensor had a high voltage, that they cleared the fault code and the car was fine when road tested.
It seems that this problem has come back - can anyone kindly advice me what I should do to cure the problem. I'm taking the car to a good independent on Tuesday - any advice on what I should tell them to carry out would be greatly appreciated.
Aside from this occasional conking out, the car drives perfectly Read more
A faulty maf sensor usually causes poor running and lack of performance.Cutting out on slow down could be a problem with the idle control valve gummed up.Also check the air intake pipework for splits, especially the 6 flexi hoses that connect the inlet plenum chamber to the inlet manifold.hth
Why do some drivers not use Bluetooth. Many if not most modern cars have this fitted. Yet day after day I see people driving around with mobile phones stuck to their ear. The last one I spotted was a 61 plate TDI Golf earlier today.
It only takes a few minutes to do the initial pairing between mobile and car. Then after that it's done automatically each time you get in the car. Read more

Ive got a damaged front door with glass and mirror broken, paint scratched too. Is it easier to replace the whole door and swap the locks over, or replace the glass and mirror separately? The locks arent essential for me.
Thanks

But can you rely on a new door being a good fit? May need to play around with those hinge bolts to get it leaktight?
Hi folks. There is a right front noise in my Pug 508 1.6 HDI manual 5 speeds when I run over road irregularities. I was in two service centers 5 times. They checked the front suspension every time and there was no fault. No noise. Later I found out that the noise which is heard somewhere under the dashboard/floor or engine compartment in the right side can also be heard if I run with the left front wheel or the rear wheels through road bumps, and it is heard in the same place (front right). The sound is there from 2800 km, now the car is 10000km. I assume this means that it is not from the front right suspension? Maybe a faulty engine mount? It sounds like a piece of wood hitting a piece of metal...
Also I have to mention that the sound is heard at low speeds under 30 kmph and it is followed by a suit of smaller noises with the same characteristics.... Read more

I have had the odd parking ticket when driving in Foreign Parts. If you are in a rental car it is almost always cheaper and simpler to swallow your pride and pay up promptly. Otherwise the powers-that-be just extract it from the rental company who then extract it from your credit card retrospectively PLUS a dirty great administration fee.
Hi - looking for and tips as to what may have prevented starting. Car working fine, battery charged and cables tight. Parked up but on return a few minutes later failed to start when key turned - no sign of starter motor engaging at all - lights and all other electrics working ok. Rocked car in ‘gear’ and pulled round engine a bit with fan belts. Suddenly started and has been ok since. Like to locate fault if possible to prevent further episode..
Might it be sticky disengage switch on gear/selector lever or sticky starter motor. Any help welcome if this problem has been noted before.... Read more
If you can locate the starter relay,Iirc is in the fuse box or on the bulkhead ,under bonnet, then a by-pass circuit can be rigged up.But by doing this ,you will be overriding the safety switch (inhibitor switch) that stops the car starting in gear.On an auto,if the engine starts in gear,it will drive away immediately.hth
MOT failure: unsafe.
My problem began when I tried starting the car with the main key fob. On turning the key in the ignition an audible alarm sounded and the engine would not start the car. It still worked the remote locking but not in the ignition. I was told the key fob battery might need changing so i changed it, but no different. I have also tried reprogramming the key fob but it is still the same.
As luck had it I tried the spare and the car started so I stuck with that one, it doesn't work the central locking but I can live with that.... Read more
What are the condition of the batteries in the fobs? Reset all your keys and perform a BSI reset on the car.
Hi
Having problems with the opening of the car doors via remote control. It's an intermittant problem although everything works well most of the time, but especially on Friday evenings in Morrison's car park it sometimes takes ten minutes for me to break into my own car. The interior lights come on when I press the opening button on the remote, but the door indicators don't work and if I am on my own I have to use the key manually. Even this does not always work properly as sometimes (rarely) all the buttons pop up but most of the time only the drivers door button works.... Read more
Hi
You were right it was the GEM module situated behind the glove department. Found a garage that replaced it with a second hand unit for £200. Was quoted over £450 + vat + fitting for a new one. Sometimes the problem can be caused by sending unit in the drivers door, which would have been a lot cheaper option....
2001 E46 M Coupe.
The car's about to go back on the road after not needing for commuting for most of this year, so I was a shocked to find a wet passenger foot well carpet.
Feeling around for a source path, imagine my shock when I opened the glove-box, and found it very wet, and then opened the fuse box and water actually came out from within the plastic cavities that the fuses sit within!
Apart from washing the body occasionally (never used a jet-wash), and moving back / forward to avoid flat spots, the car hasn't been touched. The battery is off and garaged, so no electrics on.
I've been all over the Web but no mention of water in the fuse-box.
I've had the car 7 years, and have noticed that the windscreen steams up fairly easily, but assumed it was just as it was ventilation-wise, as I've never found wet carpets etc.
It's not had a new windscreen to my knowledge, nor have the door cards/seals been off, and the carpet is dry at the sides/door bottoms.
I have noticed a couple of small splits in the windscreen surround, both sides of the car (drivers side is definitely dry inside), but I think these are more cosmetic, the screen bonded underneath? The rubber(ish) seal doesn't appear to be anywehere near waterproof around any of it's length, ie: very tight against the glass.
The car sits underneath a hawthorn tree, so I've cleared some small leaf reside from all the gutters etc that I can see under the bonnet and also from within the cavity that the rectangular filter sits within underneath the central bonnet grill next to the windscreen.
Are there any known drain holes / channels that I've missed that block perhaps?
Does anyone know of any other possible causes?
As the fuse box is wet, I can't re-instate the battery and use the car.
Thanks you to anyone who can help!

This model is not known for water leaks/ingress ,but it is possible it is coming from the under bonnet central electric box.In the engine bay ,passenger side at the rear,is a plastic cover, usually a beige/white colour.Take the screws off the lid and check inside for any water/dampness.Dry the fusebox by using a hot air gun carefully to dispel the moisture.
Both the card reader and the engine bay fuse box are not coded.
