Following on from the learners first car thread, can I ask for opinions on the pros and cons of a learner purchasing and insuring their own car as opposed to passing their test first and then doing it.
I've heard that doing the former, with a parent as a named driver can be a very good way of getting premiums down a bit at the same time as building a NCD but would welcome more feedback.... Read more
I dont suppose anyone can tell me, or point me in the direction of how to find out the exact CC of the dish in the top of the pistons in later Zetec engines? Read more
How long and how far can you drive with one of those stupid space saver wheels, before it constitutes a danger to other motorists.
For the last two weeks a clearly liveried corporate Mondeo (a computer firm summat to do with baby oak tree seeds) has to my certain knowledge been driving around with a rear drivers wheel using the tiny space saver disk. Saw him again this morning... Read more
He's recorded on my in car video. If i see him again still using the same thing then I will definitely call them. In any event I feel better having vented!
I have had to sell my car due to a family split, the ex has left me some debt and my credit rating has dropped through the floor so cannot get finance. However, I do have the above car to use, but I want to get rid of it for a sexier model. My old car was a Peugeot. I would love to part ex this car (fiat) for a new car with not too much mileage which is not very old. Am I looking for too much? Read more
"Think I am just scared...."
I know what you mean. Been there, done that... But remember, when you're under pressure (from being scared, or whatever) is not a good time to be making major decisions....
My Ford Grand C max (1.6 TDCI) is due its first service in November - it has done approx 9000 miles.
I phoned around 3 different Ford Garages (all in the North East) which all gave very different quotes:... Read more
Low SAPS oil can be bought pretty cheaply these days. Eurocarparts do an own brand one meeting C3 and the Ford spec for about £28 for 5 litres. Probably not the best stuff but it meets the spec. A lot of independents would use something like this.
I doubt the service is more than an oil or filter change, under an hour's labour for most.
Hello,
Just wanted to share you the nightmare day we had yesterday, buying and more importantly taxing a new car. If anyone has any advice etc, please respond as we really need all the help we can get.... Read more
Never had any problem with the OP's isurance company and I was with them for several years.
Perhaps if the OP had had 'logged on' the the insurance company's website WITH THEIR SECURE LOGON, then they may have been able to produce the documents they required?...

We need any type of charge point now in Merseyside, North Wales And The Lake District.
Under the above headline, the following report appeared in the Daily Mail on the 10th July 1936.
A motorist was going to Bristol and offered a lift to a man who looked nearly...but not quite...like a tramp.... Read more
Priceless!

Since you haven't got a head gasket its clear to me the head is off the car so no need to talk about putting oil down a plug hole.
When I have had the need to check combustion chamber volumes in the past I made a simple piece of perspex with 2 holes in it, on to put the thin oil in and one to let any air out. You could no doubt do exactly the same on top of a piston, no surface tension to worry about then....
