Hi

Just bought a used ford ka for £740, 12 years old with a mileage of 49k. Its a bit battered but was happy with it as a second car.... Read more

I've got an old Ford Ka, 1999, so 14 years old. It's got a genuine 40,000 miles on it (know this for sure as I've had it from 6months old) and it hasn't got any rust, none on the sills, none around the fuel cap Apart from pretty routine stuff nothing has ever gone wrong and it's still going strong. Perfect for cheap local driving. If the one the OP bought is like mine it's good for a while yet.

The engine management system warning light is showing with increased frequency (but not permanently). Occasionally the EPC light also comes on witn the EMS light (but not all the time). My local Audi garage has tried to trace the cause but with no success. I realise that it is an MOT failure, but the car runs perfectly. Any ideas? Read more

I think your mot station needs to do some revision. The engine mil light on is not a failure.Other mil lights related to airbag, abs, esp and electronic steering are part of the test and need to function correctly.Don't forget ,the mot test checks only the operation of the warning lights, not the functionality of the system.hth

My 3008 has recently suffered a turbo failure and after some negotiations I paid over £700 to have it replaced. Now 3 weeks later I get the STOP warning on the dash, Engine Oil Pressure, so I obviously take it back to the dealership where the work was done. I am now being told I need a whole new engine!!! £6000 plus! How does that happen!?
Key factors:
Peugeot serviced the car back in April, a full service costing in excess of £400.
When the Turbo failed they said the oil level was low but not below the low mark on the dipstick.
Then they said the oil was thick.
When they carried out the service out in April they recorded mileage wrong.
When I got roadside assistance the operative said he believed there was diesel in the oil, a fault sometimes seen after a turbo change.
Where do I stand? Who pays for this new engine? Peugeot claim they have carried out 2 oil & filter changes, 1 at the service, 1 at the turbo change. So why now the problem and recommended new engine?
Anybody have some advice!? Read more

So in three weeks the engine has lost or used about 3 litres or more of oil, assuming the garage did fill it properly after the turbo change. How many miles have you covered in the three weeks? Have you checked the oil level at any time since the turbo change? Is there any sign of an oil leak from the engine or turbo?

Good Afternoon all,

I purchased a CR-V 2007 plate in March specifically because of its size and ability to have an isofix base in any of the three seats behind.... Read more

Hi, i don't know if this is the same as my daughters Nissan Qashqui, but there are no fixing's in the centre seat because it is said to be dangerous. When fitting the child seat behind the passenger or driver seat it is recommended that the front seats are pushed back to help support the child seat in the event of a accident. Sparky100.

very puzzled

My Zafira (1.6 Exclusive, 44,000miles, serviced 2 weeks ago.) has had a bit of an episode. On the drive, cold, got in, wouldn't start. The engine turned over fast, recovered to garage, not starter, not cambelt. 'all your valves are stuck open' Solution 'remove hydraulic tappets, bleed and refit' £170. Car now works fine. Only problem, why did it happen, will it happen again, how can I stop it recurring.......

1 main dealer had never heard of, 2 more had heard of but no solution, neither had garage that fixed it. Just one of those things...... Read more

zafira 2.2

I had exactly this problem with 2.2 zafira, car started one day, but not the next. Engine turning over unusually fast.

The tappets had "hydrauliced" and were holding the valves slightly off their seats. No danger of any collisions with pistons, but very little compression....

Having read HJ's experience with a puncture in his Mazda 6, I was reminded of my episode with "glop" and a compressor. My Zafira SRi came with stupid 225/40 18 tyres, no spare, but a can of "glop" and a compressor. I damaged a sidewall in France, and, of course, the "glop" had no chance of sealing it. A new Dunlop SP Sport cost me 200 euros!

When I got back to the UK, I bought a matching Dunlop for £100, then sourced a spare wheel cradle, wheelbrace and jack, and a 16" steel wheel with a 215/55 tyre from JST Motor Spares (through the Parts Gateway website). ... Read more

Where do they fit the spare wheel ? Lots of new cars just don't have the space or fixings.

Not that many cars physically can't stow a spare - the majority that don't have full-size spares use that underfloor space as extra load volume or spacesaver and less extra load volume....

I thought it might be useful to write a blog of my experience of LPG conversion from start to finish.
Today I will be dropping off my 1999 Lexus mk4 LS400 to Battersea Autogas to have a BRC system with auto flash lube fitted. I have requested they remove the inlet manifold when drilling to prevent swarf entering the engine.
They have complied with my request without reservation, when I drop off the car I will also insist on photos being taken of the engine with the manifold off for confirmation.
My experience with Marco at Battersea Autogas so far has been excellent, so let's see how it goes! Read more

LPG Blog update
I was meant pick up my car on Friday eve but had forgotten (much to my wife's disgust) that I had to attend an event early on Friday eve out in Kent, with a stay for a long weekend. It would have put pressure on BAttersea Autogas to finish ahead of the scheduled time so I'll pick up early next week. I am becoming very aware of the time impact on the installer when removing the inlet manifold.
I can really see why they avoid it in order to remain competitive.
The link below is to a thread I started on the LPG forum inviting installers
To comment on the subject that you might find interesting.
there has been a good response.

By way of an update, the problem turned out to be a plastic thermostat housing that had cracked. Now we're not sure whether to keep the car or get rid!

I think I probably have to pay this, but any advice welcome !

We stopped in a car park in Herring, Denmark. The signs, in Danish of course, I did not understand, but it looked to me as if it allowed 3 hours parking. My mistake.

On my return to the car within 30 minutes, I had received a kr.650 parking ticket (£72). I photographed the parking sign and have now done a Google translate as follows:
-----
Private Parking Area
Parking only with parking permits located legibly in the foreground or in max 3 hours with the use of P-disc.
Other signs and instructions from P-guards must be followed.
For breach of rules imposing a monitoring charge of kr.650 per day.
1 days P-cards can be purchased from the savings bank.
-----

So, I can see my mistake. If I had a parking disc showing my arrival time, I would be allowed three hours (I think), but I had neither this nor the 1 day P-card,

The ticket gives me 10 days to pay by bank transfer or it will be transferred for international collection. This part of the ticket is, of course, in English !

It seems there are UK companies engaged in this business and my details will be requested from DVLA. If I try to ignore the fine, I am worried there will be additional collection charges added. I don't want some protracted and risky fight with a nasty UK collections company !

Should I just pay up and remember the lesson for the future ? Read more

Hello Nigel HD, thanks for the update. A good result for you eventually. I would suspect there were too many grey areas and muddied waters for anyone to proceed against for recovery of 'damages'. Good luck. Concrete
