Hi Guys,
Im at my whits end with my Sons Peugeot that I bought him last year for his birthday.... Read more
I am trying to find a reliable diesel engined car of the most recent registration that does not have a DPF. I have read extensively throughout many forums that the VAG 1.9PD engine (particularly the 130HP version) was the best in terms of frugality and reliability. I know this engine is no longer in production. My wife likes the Skoda Octavia and the VW Golf estate cars and I do see some advertised as 1.9 PD engined cars - however I have found many, many adverts for 1.9PD cars that were registered in 2008 and even 2009 (among the VW's and Seats) and I am trying to find out whether any of these 2008 / 2009 cars have or have not got the DPF's fitted.
My research thus far suggests they haven't because of the design of the 1.9 PD engines - but I'd rather know the facts first before approaching the car dealers. The adverts don't say (no surprise) and wherever I look for definitive information I can't find out this one simple answer. Short of contacting VW and Skoda directly about this issue in all these different cars, I'm stuck. So I have opened my membership to this fine establishment with the question :... Read more
My BIL had a Audi a3 1.9pd with a dpf its a 2008 and has been nouthing but trouble since hes ownd the car.
Hi all,
I need some advice on the best option for a cheap and reliable second hand run around (will be used to go to the train station, ferry small kids around locally and maybe the very occasional two hour motorway trip).... Read more
they are all reliable cars provided you avoid the automatics.
I would go with whatever the best deal you can find.
I took my Touran to a local garage to fix a slow puncture on rear nearside. After the garage fixed it I collected the car. As soon as I turned the key the ESP dashboard light (a pic of a car with skid marks) wouldn't turn off.
I showed the mechanic who just grunted that it wasn't anything he did. Really??? When I left the car with the garage there were no warning lights on the dashboard. Then as soon as I turn the key I now get a warning about ESP not working and that's without me even moving the car fronm the garage forecourt. Mechanic just said pump has gone so need to stick it on the diagnostic machine.... Read more
Many thanks for the explanation; very informative. From what you say I think I'll ask the garage to have the error codes read. If it's pointing at the wheel, then I think they need to take the hit. If, on the other hand, it indicates something else then I'll take the hit. Thanks again.
Hi All,
For the last few weeks when starting the car for the first time in the morning, the engine will turn over straight away, but after a few seconds will cut out. I will then have to try again and this time it take maybe 15 or 20 seconds before the engine kicks in. If I get high revs with my foot on the accelorator on initial start up then the car will tick over by itself after 10 or so seconds of keeping it at 2500-3000 revs.... Read more
Thanks for the reply.
i'll look at getting the pipe changed over the weekend then get the update done next week.
Hi. I have an Octavia, (1.8 tsi) which i bought 3months ago that is showing high oil consumption,( not even showing on dip stick after only 2) the car is 2yrs old and has done only 8k miles, my wife has the same issue with a Fabia 1.2 tsi, still under warranty.
My questions are:, are these turbo petrol engines known for this problem, have any other owners experienced the same? Read more
I suspect that there are a lot of variables here, including how the engine is set up in manufacture, how the car is driven and possibly how it'sbeen run-in from new.
The 2.0 TSI (197 bhp) in my Octavia vRS hasn't used a drop in over 30,000 miles, but I don't have the expertise to speculate on the reasons why, so I won't.
I bought a lovely brand new (against my own better judgement) Qashqai 360 in April this year. I have 2 kids, 3yo and 14 months. Everything is wonderful.
My wife is now pregnant with our 3rd - unexpected but wonderful news! Then it dawns......sh!t can we even fit 3 car seats in our brand new loses a 3rd of its value when you drive it off the forecourt car?... Read more
My daughters car has done 56k plus miles and is having problems selecting gears.
The vauxhall garage tells her a pin and cap need replacing in the gearbox. However they say they cannot get the parts and she needs a new gearbox.!! s this true and is there another way to sort this out please. She has not got £500 plus pounds.... Read more
Thank you Mr. Bucks. This is obviously a known Vauxhall problem. Maybe we should contact Watchdog. They are good at drawing attention to this kind of problem.!!
They sometimes get results....
hi, am having the rear passengers lock replaced , as it had dead locked itself , the remote would not work on any of the doors after that , although the interior lights came on and the windows would go down and up , but could not open any doors including the boot release from inside , i thought that after having the lock replaced that the remote would work as normal , but the garage is saying that this is not the case ??, have checked all fuses and relays , all ok module is working fine ?, any ideas as to what it could be ? ... thanks..i should point out that prior to the rear door dead locking it self , every thing was working fine ... hi , thanks for the advice about rechecking the fuses, checked them again , and found one had slipped through the net , replaced and all working fine now.. many thanks again..
Hi All, over the past few weeks I have noticed a "rumbling" noise after start up, esp when its been cold outside. The Revs seem to be constant, and not bumping up and down, and putting it in and out of gear doesnt make a difference. The engine is not throwing a code
A little bit of throttle does make it disappear, and once the engine is warm its a lot less apparent, although it still appears if I idle too long at roundabout etc.... Read more
So I have changed the oil, oil filter, air and pollen filters (didnt change the sparks as I need to borrow torque wrench) and the noise is certainly less obvious than it was before, however I have noticed that it is significantly louder with the window down, and seems to go away as I move the gear lever around. This is the only thing I have found that makes a difference.
Its a manual btw....
By way of an update, the problem turned out to be a plastic thermostat housing that had cracked. Now we're not sure whether to keep the car or get rid!
