Hi all,
Iam sure your all sick to death with hearing about the same problems with these b***** vans, but unfortunatly iam going to add insult to injury with my added van problems, it a 51plate vivaro,iv previously cleaned out the egr valve with plenty of carb cleaner??.and I had the mass air flow sensor replaced,as 3months ago the van started going into limp mode at 75mph,the when I let off the throttle the glow light would go out and power would resume until 75mph was reached again??,no fault codes apple reared when taken to the garage, then the van wouldn't rev above 2k rpm on cold starts until the engine was warmed up,that's when I had the mass air flow sensor changed, that cleared that problem up,but the glow light was still coming on at 75 mph along with limp mode, and now the cold starting problem has come back to bite me on the back side ,
Iam not that machanicly minded but have plenty of tools (iam a sparks) to try and eliminate some potential faults,I havnt got a clue where solinoids or sensors are which could be at fault,so what iam asking is if one of you lovely people would be so kind in helping me with pictures/photos and what I should be checking,I'd very much appriciate it,two kids and a wife I don't have a bottomless pit of money so need to try my best at fixing it it as my vans my work horse..thank you in advance Jonny ;0) Read more

I took my Movano to a garage for some MOT remedial work on the rear brakes. Got it back, but the indicators, hazards and c/l dont work. The only thing unusual that happened while they had it, was that it ran out of diesel, and they had to bleed it of course. They didnt say whether the battery was flattened or not, during this. The fuses for hazards and c/l are ok, but I cant find one for the indicators. Is it included in another fuse , or located in a different place? If there is a relay where is it located. Cant find anything on the net, so I'm hoping you can help! Read more

Hi, had exactly same problem. I had intermittent issues with immobiliser working then finally stopped working. I first took the fuses off, cleaned them & tested them (but they were fine). When reinstalling them noticed the battery post clamp bolt had slight play. Tightened the bolt up & hey presto it worked straight away. Re started the ignition a few times & every thing fine now.

Thanks you both for submitting your findings as it helped resolve the issue a lot quicker. There doesn't seem to be a lot of info on internet regarding this issue with Movano/Renault Masters....

My passenger electric window is not working, but the drivers side is working fine, is there a common fault with these?

as far as i am aware there isnt a seperate fuse for each side. Read more

A lowly corsa has a fairly complicated window lift system and electronic cicuit, part of which is controlled by the body control module. As a basic test,I would check the round plug connectors that carry the wiring from the door pillar to the door.Check pins and wires for damage/corrosion.hth

Hello all,

I'm considering chopping in the a4 for one of the above models. I'm off to test drive them on Wednesday and wondered if anyone had any thoughts on them.

I'm tempted by the price of the 1.7 but have got doubts as to whether 114hp is going to be enough?

If you want to 2.0 then you have to have awd. Does this have any effect on tyre life?, I seem to remember with 4wd you have to change all the tyres at the same time?

Finally I'd be interested to hear from any owners out there.

Safe driving!

If you go for a Mazda, go petrol, but the VAG common-rail diesel is fine. I don't know how well Kia / Hyundai diesels will last - too early to say perhaps.

The 2006-2009 2.2 CRDTi Hyundai-Kia diesels seem to be proving reliable without any undue attention although few have done mega miles - one owner has done 186,000 uneventful miles but not many are over the 100,000 yet.

The even newer 2010-onwards all-new 2.2 CRDi Hyundai-Kia has obviously done even fewer miles but nothing to report yet.

The car ran faultlessly with smooth changes until fairly recently. It now lurches & jumps badly on gear selection. A bit alarming ! On older models I know you could do an oil change and clean out the filter on the auto box, but this model (BMW power plant) uses solenoids to shift the gears rather than pumped oil. I'm stuck for ideas. Any suggestions much appreciated. Read more

Gearbox now fixed. It turned out to be a failed solenoid(s) and we were able to order up the parts for about £100 and hand them over to our local garage who did the job for another £120. Car now running as it should, chuffed to bits! Thanks for your input.

The left hand half of my heated windescreen has failed, a few weeks out of warranty! The heated area is in two halves but there is only one fuse. As there are no "Moving parts" and nothing has been moved or worked on in the area of the dash/switches or the screen I am at a loss to know what else I can check. I am guessing it is put up with it until I get a crack or large chip in the screen and have it replaced free. I think the cost of buying and fitting a screen would be a lot of money.

Any money saving ways forward would be most welcome! Read more

SFAIK it is fixed - not enough frost last night to check it! I am more concerned about being perhaps taken for a sucker by a main dealer re unrequested safety check. How odd that they should do one, on their own initiative, and turn up £500 worh of problems and they happen to be able to book it in next Wednesday! I am old but not senile and nothing is happening on the car that would have me going to a garage for a check up. I am only home 5 days in the next month and the car is going to be out of use so it can wait. I am going to get a second opinion!

Hi there hoping for a bit of advice from the experts. Have a late 2007 Focus Titanium 2.0 TDCI. It's got 85k on the clock and we've had it from nearly new and kept up a full ford service history.

Over the last week or so I've noticed it develop a high pitched whine which is most obvious in low gears though I think it does happen in high gears but it's largely blocked out by road noise (either than or I'm paranoid). This doesn't just happen under acceleration, in fact to me seems more obvious when I take my foot off the gas. My husband thinks he's noticed it disapear when you press the clutch but I can't say I've noticed that and I drive it far more but will listen for it tomorrow. Any advice appreciated, just hope the suggestion isn't a new clutch required!... Read more

I had a whine develop on my Focus, and it was the alternator (diodes) that had failed. Handly I worked it out before I broke down. I suspect you'll have found out the hard way by now if it was the alternator!

Generally appears to be true. But didn't Subaru have problems with clutches mated to the diesel engines? Quite a few complaints given their small market share (the odd one can be attributed to abuse).

The original components used wouldn't take the torque of the turbo-diesel - surprising from a manufacturer building high output twin-turbo petrol engines with enormous low down torque - and they still haven't mated their diesel to any form of automatic.

Hi there, Im new to this and not really sure what im doing but in need of some advice so im hoping somebody sees this.

In september 2012, I bought a 2001 peugeuot 206 lx 1.4 automatic, from a private dealer with no warranty and after a couple of weeks I noticed that there was always a strong burning smell coming from the bonnet, although it never felt that it got too hot and i couldnt really tell where exactly it was coming from, also when i was driving for the first little while the car over revs, to about 40,000 but only sits on about 30mph (it would prob rev more but the noise worries me and i ease my foot off accelerator) then the car will make a clunk noise n jolt forward slightly, that will happen 3/4 times and then do it one time massively, the car will then make 3 beeps with no lights flashing and then drive normally. I had the engine oil changed and a new filter put in place as it was filthy, hoping this would solve it but it hasn't,... Read more

Hi.

I have an 02 plate Astra 1.4 16V engine type Z14XE, which has misfired on Cylinder 3. This isn't the first time this has happened (about the 6th or 7th) I've had the plugs changed twice, new coil pack, new ecu, new egr, and a software update but the problem still seems to be there.... Read more

Haha sounds about right.

After so much hassel and wasted money on "could be's" I have now cut my losses and gotten ris of the car. Decided on it after I was told it could be the head gasket and it was gonna cost between £400-£500 to replace with no guarentee of a cure....
