January 2013
Hi,
Picked up a 320d SE 2007 (07) yesterday, anyway today it's started causing me problems, obviously I've phoned up the garage, they've given me a car whilst they get it in the garage on Monday.
I'm just wanting to get an idea (hopefully) of what it *could be...
Started this morning, it was cold 1.5C and the car started fine, but after this for about 3 seconds it sounded like it was struggling, this was whilst I was idle on the drive.
Then, I filled up with diesel (and I've checked it was DEFO diesel), and whilst waiting with the engine on after I'd filled up it just cut out, then I set off and the car just cut out whilst driving, the electrics (ie indicators) still worked, but all power was lost. I pulled up to the side, then started it up again, and drove to a car park, no warning lights throughout all this.
Started the car again, accelerated fast in first and into second gear and it cut out again, displaying the triangle with an explanation mark and a round arrow warning light (something to do with DSC or DTC?)
Left it 5 minutes, then drove the 20 miles to the garage, and it seemed fine again?
Also worth pointing out my wife said it smelt of a kind of burning, maybe oil burning smell when she got in the car on the way to the garage.
Now it might have done this yesterday once whilst driving or I might have selected the wrong gear, I thought nothing of it yesterday just dismissing a wrong gear, but on whats happened today I'm not sure!
Gutting that it's happened so quick, but better now whilst under some kind of dealer warranty I guess, worth noting I believe a new turbo was fitted at 86k, the car is now on 90k.
Any suggestions ?

Hello motorists
we all get the occasional nail in the tyre part of motoring life... Read more
I haven't had one for donkey's years, and yet there have been times when I have had a spate of them even on the new tyres to replace previous new tyres, and always screws. Some far-left Transport 2000/ Critical Mass types used to put screws in slices of fruit or potatoes and pop them under the tyres of target vehicles which offended them.
Hi,
I've been to look at a Corsa D 1.4sxi 16v 2007 with the intention of buying. Its done 38000 miles and looks and sounds pristine, but when my OH has gone under the bonnet there was a noticable ticking sound. You couldn't hear it with the bonnet down. Also on removal of the oil cap there was yellow mayonnaise type goo on the bottom of the cap.
The dealer said it was nothing to worry about it was because there car hasn't been driven for a while and the ticking was commen on corsas....and the car had been checked.
Should I stear clear of this car or was what the dealer saying right?

Well what can I suggest now.
Don't buy from a dealer thats 2 grand off for starters....
Having just been reversed into while parked, then to be accused by Mr white van man of driving into him, I have decided I need a dash cam. Can anyone please recommend a simple, compact model suitable for insurance evidence as opposed to HD track day footage? Thanks. Read more
WHy dont you look at the dashcam reviews on this website?
Hi
Great start to 2013...
My Renault Scenic has failed to start. Initially the car stated "low oil pressure" and "hand brake failure" with a loud beep. The engine hardly tried to turn over and instead the engine fan run for ages.
The engine after it was left for a while was attempted again and once again I got the fault light as well as practically every fault light going. The car also thanked me by locking me within the vehicle for around 5minutes. I then tried jump starting the car to no avail.
I eventually gave up and called the AA. The mechanic although very helpful wasn't hugely sure with the problem as it was only a guess from his on board computer but he suggested a possible earthing fault. He managed to get the car going by using a jump pack and earthing against the engine (I think). Apparently the battery showed normal readings initially but then also showed spikes which would again possibly suggest earthing problems. All major earthing points checked over but didn't fix the problem.
Well the car once again won't start, was planning on getting an auto mechanic out or, fingers crossed get it to a mechanic I know... car permitting.
My questions are;
Is this a common fault?
Is it likely to reoccur?
Will it be expensive to put right?
Advice sorely needed!
Thanks in advance! Read more
Hi,
I know you oposted this a while ago, but did you ever get to the cause of the problem and find a remedy?...
I have seen various postings regarding door locks on older 406's( particularly after a spell of cold weather) where the keys just turn in the lock without functioning. Sometimes the main dealerships suggest it is down to a worn key or a lock barrel needing replacement ......costs are: In UK typically £180 for a new key and £80 for new lock barrel.....just crazy prices.
A way to fix it ( which I agree) is to get some WD 40 or similar penetrating oil on to the lock solenoid......most suggest this requires taking off the inner door panel......FORGET THAT ......here's the solution I found which is very simple....... Read more
Sorry but on a high mileage Peugeot 406 Hdi estate this is unlikely to work, highly unlikely in fact. What happens is that the steering lock wears out first. The car owner then gets a new steering lock and key. The new key is synchronised to the car and the plipper works OK.
The fact that the car doors cannot be opened mechanically by the new key is ignored and the original keys get lost. Next the rough Peugeot gets sold in an online auction....

Can I suggest you consider an old Yaris.
The 1.0L is fine, we have one, Y reg. Management (wife) uses it everyday for work and it's fine for that type of journey. This weekend I've tried the new Yaris with a 1.0L engine and it didn't feel as flexible as my Y reg one. ...
Hi all,
I had Peugeot 307 petrol and I could change oil, oil filter, air filter, interior filter, spark plugs etc. by myself. I have never gone to a garage for maintenance so far. Now I bought 2010 model Peugeot 308 1.6 HDI 90 Hp. I have never used diesel car neither its maintenance. Could you please help me about it?
For example, I couldn't locate the diesel fuel filter? Where is it? Do I need any special tool for that? My car is not 37000 km. and I want to change is soon. Air filter + interior filter are easier. Could you please also tell me if the oil change procedure is the same in this car? I couldn't look deeper but is the location of the oil filter same in this car in comparison with my previous car?

20 quid on a Haynes manual would be money well spent.
No they normally go as I described driving normally then the ignition light comes on engine then stops for a varied time from 1 sec to 5 secs and goes ok again, when the sensor goes completely it stops the engine for good. The smell would not come from the sensor. Its the camshaft sensor that stops the car running at idle and stops it starting when it has gone completely.
