Hi all,
Having read this site for weeks now I am considering purchasing a 2003-2006 Nissan X-trail and just wondered if anyone out there can offer advice?... Read more
i recently broken down and had to get rac out as car engine would not start, rac guy squeezed fuel primer and then it started.it is fine driving but next day message came on dashboard of injection fault as car would not start,i squeezed primer again and it started and drove fine.
i was told it could be dirty fuel so i have added deisel injection cleaner and might take a couple days to clean.... Read more
You need to look to see where the fuel is leaking from when the car is facing down hill.
That will also be where the air is getting into the fuel at other times.
Recently I've been having some problems with the cooling system.
The temperature gauge has been going all over the place, the fan is on pretty much the whole time I'm driving and stays on for about 2minutes after I turn off the engine, despite not being that hot.... Read more
Hey, I'm having exactly the same problems and am currently stuck at the road side as my car was steaming so much. What was the problem in the end so I can tell the garage and stop them charging me lots of un necessary stuff? Thanks!
Recently bought car which was on variable servicing using longlife oil. I wish to change this to annual servicing and the handbook state that I should use an oil meeting specifications VW 505.01 or VW507.00. My question is should I change to the 505.01 05/40w oil that is specific for PD engines or keep using the longlife 507.00 05/30w oil but change it annually? The reason I am asking is that I believe this engine is hard on oil and also may suffer cam damage so my concern is avoiding any wear as much as possible. When I compare the two Castrol oils meeting these specs/grades there is no price difference, but cost is not a factor, but feel that as the 507.00 seems to be the latest oil would this be better at protecting the engine and emission parts? The car is a 2005 model with 75k miles, EU4 without a dpf.
Many thanks Read more
If your car has a DPF then obviously you can only use VW507.00 regardless...

All done so it seems!
The day after I posted it fired up for 10 seconds then wouldn't start....
The trip computer that can be accessed on the main central console has reverted to displaying the stopwatch. Beforehand I had it set to miles remaining to fuel fill up which proved very handy. I'm not sure how to access the computer and how to make the changes, getting rid of the stopwatch function.

My wife's Golf (mk4 150bhp 6 speed TDI) wouldn't go into reverse today. All the other gears are fine, but not reverse.
I called out the RAC, and he said it wasn't the selector, they were fine, so it must be an internal gearbox problem. Now, if I hold the gearstick hard against the reverse position the car will move, albeit with the ocassional noise.... Read more
Hi Chris,
Was the plastic blocking it internally or on the external selector? I have the same problem at the moment on my GTi and my mechanic seems to think its the gearbox tower that is the problem...

Poor VAG main dealer service really winds me up, the UK dealer network is very poor compared to the one in Germany. As a VAG specialist I have to work b***** had to attract and keep my customers but the main dealer has customers handed to them on a plate and then they treat people with contempt, maddening! I don’t know of a common issue on the 6R that can cause this issue but on the previous 9N3 I would have said possibly the anti-roll bar drop link or wishbone rear bush but the late 9N3 and the 6R reverted to the Golf 4 rear wishbone bush design instead of the Golf 5 design and these don’t seem to make a noise early in life....

I think a petrol is the way to go as the majority of diesels i had been looking at had done 70k + and from reading the forums that tends to be the mileage trouble can start with the 1.6 diesels....
My wife's Freelander has recently been down on power especially on hills and overtaking.
Local LR specialist has diagnosed "fault on turbo solenoid" - are you aware of any such problems?... Read more
they like all turbo diesels can suffer from turbo issues but its making sure that the diagnostics have been carried out correctly.
They do store fault codes most frequently for turbo issues but doesnt always mean they need a turbo. Mine from new kept flagging a turbo fault amoungst many others and LR were going to replace the turbo under warranty at 9k but i refused to accept it was the turbo and didnt want a remanufactuered unit fitted. For my FR2 it turned out to be a wiring issue....
The VED for the 2.5 auto is obscene isn't it? If you get one pre sometime in 2006 it's only Band K post 2006 then it's Band L. Which is a big DIS-incentive to sell on my old one. That and the fact it gives me the petrol equivalent of 40mpg cos I run mine on LPG (with flashlube).
Incidentally did you know the Lock setting automatically disengages once you go over 30. My XT shod on the proper oem rubber has let me drive with confidence in the recent slippery stuff commuting 75miles round trip every day. Back to my other car (a hybrid) now that the weather has moderated....
