Hi,
I have a huge problem with my seat Leon. A week ago it worked normally, before it went to minus temp and snow. After which I tried it again (roughly 5 days after the cold started), and no start. You can hear some winding noise, before it gives up. The warning lights fire up:... Read more
Dear Honest John,
I purchased a BMW M3 CS from Beck Evans in Sidcup on 29th September this year. This is my 5th BMW and my 3rd 'M' so I know a bit about them. I paid £12,000 (partly though Close Motor Finance) the vehicle had covered 75,000 miles on a '55 plate. I arrived at the dealership at the pre-arranged time to collect my vehicle and was told "its not here - the boss has been driving it". Now in hindsight I should have compalined about this and I would have had I of known of things to come....... Read more
I wish to report a very positive recent experience with Beck Evans, as I have also reported on other threads on this forum. About 2 months ago I purchased a 2005 BMW 325i estate. After driving it for a week or so, it became clear that the car was burning far too much oil, and subsequent tests confirmed this and suggested some sort of engine wear problem. So I contacted Beck Evans and asked for my money back: after running their own tests, they took the car back and gave me a full refund. Can't say fairer than that! [And I should point out that it's perfectly possible that they weren't aware of the problem when they sold me the car, since it only becomes apparent after you've driven a couple of hundred miles.]
So I can't comment on other peoples' experiences, but certainly my own recent experience has been entirely positive.
Hi I have had a Mazda 6 sport 2.2 diesel (183bhp) since December 2009 and I have been having heating problems for the last 18 months or so. The car has been into Mazda 3 times (the last time in March) when it had the head gasket replaced under warranty as it was cracked. This fixed the problem for a few months however on the 26 November the engine had a major breakdown and stalled on the motorway slip road.

just out of interest do you know how much a new mazda 6 2.2 litre diesel sport would cost roughly. They are asking me for 40% of the total cost which comes in at £2300 which seems a lot as this would meen the engine plus fitting should cost £5300 does this sound right

I thought Fords were owned by an American company with most of there production in Europe with most engines bought in but for the life in me I cannot see what the difference where an engine is made determines how difficult a job would be.Would it not be better to look at a repair manual before you start.
It is well know that the Audi Multitronic box have well know issues which can be expensive to repair. ... Read more
Just call your local Audi dealer and speak to the parts department - give them your VIN and they should be able to give you the precise answer as to which typ you have.
Just had a lift in a 2006 astra 1.9 diesel taxi. The driver bought it with 90k on the clock. in the past year he's put another 52k on it !

I recently replaced the coil pack which cured a misfire. Within days it started to occasionally stall at low speed/revs and refusing to start again. It does it maybe 1 in 20 stop/starts. When it stalls, both the engine management light (which is the car with a spanner in it) and the exhaust emission light (pic of an engine) flash quickly. The engine will then turn over, but not fire. When you turn the ignition off and on again, without cranking the engine, the exhaust emission light flashes quickly 4 or 5 times. After anything from 2 to 20 more attempts at starting and/or waiting 10 minutes, when turning the ignition on the exhaust emission light does not flash and the car will start normally. This has happened with both keys.... Read more
Of course, the Vauxhall diagnostics declared that the ECU was at fault, and had I left it to Vauxhall to fix, I'd have been seriously out of pocket. That's not to say a new ECU wouldn't have cured the problem. The diagnostics showed a 'spike' in the system which was obviously being created by the aftermarket coil pack, but a new ECU might have been able to handle it without shutting the whole system down.
Hi guys,
Have a pug 306 hdi and a couple of days ago the spring return in the ignition barrel went sloppy and won't return to it's correct position automatically so went to a scrappy today and got another barrel together with it's key. Trouble is after we fitted it the car will turn over properly but won't start. I presume this is something to do with the immobilizer transponder so put the old lock and key back in and sure enough the car started first time. Does anyone know if there is a way round this problem or if not is there a way to repair the original barrel so that the spring return works again.... Read more
Hi , you dont say what year it is,asume its a 1999 onwards, you are right its to do with the immobilizer, and the suggestion of changing the sping over is the best way. distmantling the switch and putting it in the original switch a bit fiddly, or also as previous suggestion fit the key blade into your original key fob. Alternatively go back to the scrap yard and get the ECU ,Alarm module and transmitter all from the same vehicle your key came from also the.
The alarm module has the immobilizer code in , the transmitter ring around the lock picks up the code from the key sends code signal to the alarm module if it matches module sends signal to ECU to allow fuel etc to start the vehicle....

I cannot see how your garage did anything wrong ball joints can go from servicable to non servicable in a matter of a few hundred miles.New ball joints in 5years is hardly a catastrophe you make it sound from your headline the suspension has dramatically collapsed wait till you have a real problem such as the ABS ecu or gearbox problem then you will have something to complain about but having to replace a balljoint is just everday motoring.
When the ignition key is turned to the start position nothing happens i have checked this out and found the starter relay has lost it's ecu earthing. i know getting the ecu repaired would fix this.I'm just wondering can this fault be cured by fixing another earth through ignition fix this any feedback greatly accepted Regards mickeybo Read more
So if you earth the relay does the car start?Does the car have auto transmission.?I am not convinced the ecu is at fault.hth

Thanks again guys...
Interesting what happened.I asked a mechanic to come out,and we setteled for meeting at the car. And,their diagnose was the engine is dead, a new one is needed. As apparently the engine :14l,16v vw engine has a common problem with the oil pump on freezing temperatures. ,as we had this problem before,it seemed possible, but last year when the oil played up,i could pure oil and drive it to the service.this didnt even start now....
