What's the view on these? Many say they damage your paintwork and should be avoided but having used them (infrequently I must admit) I haven't been able to see any 'damage' as such, albeit a faintly more noticeable set of swirl marks.
Are they good or bad as they are certainly a time saver at the weekend on the days I can't be bothered cleaning my car myself?... Read more
I'm looking to change tires at present and shopping around. One of the fast fit chains offers a standard tire balance with every new tire. They also do an option extra "Precision balance upgrade", for which they charge £2.50
Never heard of this before, only seen it at this one place. Anyone heard of it? Read more
We're agreed then that this is largely a profit improving wheeze for tyre shops.
Hi all,
I used this forum about 6 months ago for advice regarding a stolen (cloned) car that I bought. Long story cut short, the seller went AWOL pretty much straight after the transaction was made, the car was HPI clear (as it was checking the legitimate car) and alarm bells rang when I saw the same car up for sale elsewhere when I had a car of the same number plate on my doorstep. Anyway, police and DVLA were informed and neither wanted to know anything about it - dont ask why. After hassling the police, they came down and told me the car was fine and I had nothing to worry about. I then wrote to the DVLA - 6months later they responded and sent someone from the Police down to have a look - this time it was a specialist.... Read more

If a deal looks too good to be true there is usually a very good reason....
On experiencing a leak from screenwash reservoir when filling - had this checked out at the next service, to be advised that the most likely cause was breakage from a car park 'nudge' deforming the body - breaking the assembly and then springing out!
Replacement price £288.... Read more
It may be too late if the parts have been ordered but you may like to check up on the official Honda UK price for the part here:-

I've got a 2006 Ford Focus Studio 1.6 TDCi (110K) and a few weeks ago the engine just cut out on me whilst on the motorway. Could only get it started again with some "easy start" and took it to the garage.
They replaced what they believed to be the cause of the problem which was the CAM sensor. Touch wood since then it has been OK and no cut out but \I've noticed the engine malfunction light was flicking on and off on the way home this evening.... Read more
Yeah same problem with different key unfortunately. Yeah I cleared it and unfortunately it comes back again.
No problems when driving around today thankfully. Just makes me worried. Got a long drive planned Friday for work. eekk!
Gradual loss of power and lots of black smoke from exhaust whilst on M-Way - nervously watching instruments until the next exit, suddenly the fuel gauge dropped to zero. Nearest garage asked if I had put petrol in - I don't think so. Loss of power is almost total.
Is the fuel gauge issue a coincidence, or a symtom connected with the other problem ?... Read more
Hi Sully
I havent used them , I would ring and speak to them and discuss how they would approach the situation ....
Hey,
Could someone please help as I have a Mazda 6 (90,000) on the clock. Quite a good runner considering its cheap and cheerful :) but I am having a problem. Since last week my engine management light and traction control light has come on.... Read more
Chatting to my local indy this morning, he mentioned that Mazda diesel software switches on the 'anti pollution fault' light and can put the car into limp home mode after a set period of running hours, regardless of the state of the DPF; this is intended to ensure the owner has to take it to a Mazda dealer to be relieved of £90 to have the system reset.
I can believe this is true, but can not confirm this from personally hearing this from Mazda....
Hi all, I have been working in South Africa for a while and whilst out there I brought a nice 1978 Ford Escort. I am looking at shipping it back to the UK and was wondering if anyone knew of how to go about it. I am from the UK so its not a case of shipping all my stuff over, its literally just the car.
When I was in Australia to ship a car over from the UK I had to prove that I had owned it for over a year and had to pay a nice Import tax + check over and rego fee. It was worth it for a decent car that would have cost me around $16,000 AUD that I paid £900 for here.... Read more

Hi. when i am driving my golf it starts to make a grinding noise and starts to judder and kicks out excessive black smoke from the exhaust. It drives okay again then for a while, but then repeats this problem on a regular basis. Any idea what the problems couls be. Thanks Read more
You can't clean the breather effectively, it is moulded into the cam cover so you have to fit a new cam cover but I work on the VAG PD day in day out and hardly ever see one blocked. Oil leaking from the EGR valve is the same oil that bleeds out of the hoses and which I see even on two year old cars with less than 20K on them, it is quite normal. When oil leaks from the vent holes on the EGR valve it means the valve is worn and could be replaced to stop the oil showing but it is only necessary if the owner is perplexed by the oil. VW introduced thicker seals for the boost pipes to stop the oil showing but it does not stop it from being there inside, it’s a case of what the eye can't see the mind does not worry about.
My BMW 3 Series Coupe 2.0Diesel Sport Automatic on a 57 Plate has full main agent BMW service History. It went in for a service and I was informed the engine was noisy. Thankfully the car has the BMW Exttended warranty, the car has covered 47,000 miles. I must give credit to the service centre at BMW Park Lane at Stewarts Road, Battersea, who diagnosed the problem immidiately and who provide an exceptional level of service. That is why I travel from north to south London as I believe they offer the best service in LOndon, I have been driviing BMW's for 30 years. The cost of the repair is upwards of of an eye watering £5,000.00 thankfully I only have to pay £100,00 excess. the work needed was a full removal and strip down of the engine. It needed the following parts to be replaced: Crank Shaft, Bearings, and Timing Chain Assembly and of course re filled the engine with new oil. Read more
My 57 plate 320d M Sport coupe has just broke down. Full service history 61000 miles on the clock. Apparently the engine is locked up and they suspect a snapped timing chain and what other damage this may have caused. I am also told the engine needs stripping just to diagnose the problem at a significant cost before they even establish how bad the damage is and how costly the work will be.
I have been told to register my complaint with BMW GB. Has any one had any assistance from them with similar problems in the past?
Does anyone have any advice?
Used to be a problem with the old cellulose paints, which were much softer. My father once aquired an Austin 1800 cheap, as it had a completely matte paint finish from being whirly-brush-washed since new.
Not a problem with modern, epoxy based paints. I get to claim washes for my fleet car, so it runs through every couple of weeks. Nearly four years on, the paint is unmarked (well, unmarked from washing......usual stone chips etc.)
