Hi all

My trafic smokes on start up, for the first 10 seconds or so the revs are 500-1000 and almost stalls. the if you rev it in neutral it hesitates between 2500-3000 and white smoke fills the sky. if you try and drive it smokes at the same revs and then after 3000 it feels like the turbo kicks in. after about 5 mins driving all is fine, it drives well and smoke is gone but sometimes it goes into limp mode. so far i have cleaned egr and maf ( which is new and i have tried it with another maf in case mine was duff), leak test on injectors was fine, changed fuel filter, 2 of the 4 glow plugs need replacing and the lid of the air filter box doesnt seem to fit properly. An AA man showed me a test were you squeeze the intercooler pipe and get someone to rev engine and the pipe should expand in you hand, this does not happen. diag code reader only brought up glow plugs... The turbo on your 1.9 dci is designed to give boost immediately which gives the engine low speed torque the turbo on start up should spool up immediately and using a vac gauge or mity vac pump vac should read at turbo actuator 26/27 inhg. As regards to smoke at cold start up i would get the pre heat period checked out & certainly after glow period to counteract smoking after cold start Hth Regards Mickey bo

Hi

On Sunday last week my oil warning light came on (a red light stating I had no oil) This has happened before naturally as I have the car for over 2 years. I filled the car up with 1 litre of oil, drive away and it was fine.... Read more

I have had my A4 avant for 11 years from new. All problems encountered with the car come from the ingress of water/damp into the electrics. Damp, wet cold days prompt all sorts of electrical gremlins to appear. I've suffered the plenum chamber problem with servo replaced.

Three weeks ago, my oil level sensor (not pressure sensor) started playing up, yellow warning light staying on. Changed oil and new genuine oil sensor, reset and hey.........yellow light still on....

Hi

It sounds to me like The previous two members have answered your question but here's abit more just to back them up. The ASZ engine is a good strong engine and it would be very rare for the head gasket to go on that engine. Oil coolers were a common fault on the mk4 golf platforms right from the 90ps right up to the 150ps. So I would agree with the two members that have already helped you out and go with the oil cooler first it's cheaper and will probably cure your problem. I've seen people run them ASZ engine's to well over 200K and they are still running strong....

Just wanted to share the recent trauma I went through when I had the DPF removed on my Peugeot 207 1.6Hdi 110bhp Sport and, had it not been for OMG! PERFORMANCE (www.omg-performance.com) who put things right after the shambolic & unprofessional work carried out by s******* Ltd, my car would still have error codes on its dash; would have failed all MOTs & probably also suffered irreparable damage!

The whole saga happened like this:... Read more

Hi averagejoe

Many thanks for your post and also for confirming what we - and apparently several others - have suffered when they fell for S*******'s marketing hype and had their DPF removed and/or ECU remapped/reprogrammed by these cheaters. Then, when you eventually manage to contact them, submit your complaint and agree to take your car back to them to try and have it sorted out, they blame it on everything else under the sun except on their shoddy and rubbish work. To make it even worse, Jay - who is the main culprit behind this scam - is conspicuous by his total absence! ...

I bought this car partly on HJ's recommendation and whilst essentially excellent at 55,000 miles it suffered an engine failure, without prior warning.

Toyota are doing their utmost to deny laibility and have fudged a £1000 repair without finding the cause.... Read more

Man admits to missing oil and filter services and then complains that the Manufacturer will not supply a free new engine.

There is a one word answer for such behaviour...

I am currently making a complaint against DRPL and just wanted to get peoples thoughts on the issue.

I was first contacted by DRPL about an unpaid parking ticket. The ticket was issued at a train station I have never been to around 200 miles from where I live and where I was on the day in question. I assured them in could not be me and asked if there could have been a mistake when recording the number plate. The recorded colour of the car matched mine and I was told that it was either my car or that someone had cloned my car number plate. Thinking someone had cloned my car I rang the police to make them aware of the issue. I rang DRPL again and requested any evidence they had against me. They said they would request this and get back in contact.... Read more

We recently sold our Renault Modus to my sister in law. Car was in perfect working order when we sold it.

A week and a half after she started using it she called us one day saying that it wouldn't start. The ignition lights would come on but the starter motor didn't turn and the imobiliser light was still flashing. Whether this is relevant or not I don't know.... Read more

I have had a Zafira (58) for approx 6 months and it is coming up to its MOT.

This car has no spare wheel (unlike the usual Zafira rear underslung wheel) and no car jack. Instead it has an airpump and cartridge of tyre sealant which is blown into the tyre in the event of a puncture.... Read more

MOT does not mandate a spare, but if one is present it must be roadworthy

Correct. Of our 3 cars only one has a spare. One has run flats and the other has a can of goo in the boot. Never have a problem at MOT time and never will....

Hi I brought a new astra gtc back in January and after just 7,500 miles i started to experience clutch noise/slipping. I dropped the car into my local dealer and have now been presented with a quote of £1950 for a replacement clutch and flywheel they are saying was damaged due to misuse. I am a professional driven and there if no way i have caused this, my second vehicle I use for work has 152,000 on and still has original clutch.

Let me know what you think??

Thanks Read more

I have similar issues with my Astra VXR. My car has had a complete gearbox change after the original was causing alot of noise when driving around a coriner. Looking on the next i can that this is a common issue along with the Clutch problem.

I now have a faulty Flywheel a few months after the new gearbox was fitted. Unfortunately, my cars warranty ran out last month and Vauxhall won't cover the entire cost to fix but will contribute 70% of the £1700 bill....
