Hi, please could someone help me with if the grand scenic 1.9dci 2006 has the DMF?
Its starting to not have power occasionally in 5-6th gear when accelerating away & I think it may be the clutch thats on its way out??... Read more
Hi I was wondering if anyone knows the name of the following parts. I'll do my best to describe them.
There is a full unit that plugs into the fuel injectors and then there is another unit that plugs onto the spark plugs with a pronged lead that detaches from it. My mechanic has had a look at my car & run diagnostics on it but hasn't actually given me the diagnostic codes. He's just said I need two fuel injectors & the units that plug on the injectors & spark plugs (with nice little drawings of the units needed)... Read more
The unit that sits over the top of all 4 spark plugs is the coil pack (cassette). It has a multi pin connector at the gearbox end. These do give trouble and cause misfires.I very much doubt you need 2 injectors.Your mechanic is dreaming.hth
Have had intermittent fault with airbag warning light coming on in two Subaru Imprezas. On one occasion was obliged to spend nerly £400 on replacement sensor, but have now solved another episode by tightening connection under passenger seat as suggested for other cars. Worth trying! Read more
Well a Qasqai will have a Renault Diesel engine.
anyone knows? Read more
And soon no more vans either. I still find it strange that Toyota, Nissan and Honda can produce cars profitably in the UK and yet Ford can't.
the car is parkes on a slope if reverse gear is selected it will roll forward never had this before with other automatics any advice Read more
Selecting reverse doesn't lock the transmission on any automatic AFAIK-why not just use position "P" park if it's got one? -or just use the parking brake?
I have a bit of play at the steering wheel it looks like the universal joint to the rack is a bit sloppy. It it easy ro replace? Do I need to work from both inside the car und underneath? Are they all the same on the 406's? I think I may need to replace the rack as well as it appears to be wheeping oil from the column pinion.

Not had a problem with a 406 but I have a C5 with play in the UJ but that rattles rather than give excessive movement. On the C5 the UJ is part of the steering column. I would get someone to move the steering wheel while you check each section, if the pinion bearing is leaking you may have play in the rack.
Hi all, seeking advice. I am looking to buy a 200-2001 Ford Focus Estate to replace a recently dead Renault 19 diesel. I like the fuel economy of the Focus diesels (hj's real mpg suggests 36mpg petrol vs 48mpg diesel) but I'm worried about the horror stories of older diesels failing expensively (the DMF problem).
My choice for the Mk1's (and Mk 1.5's) seem to either of 2 diesel engines, the 1.8TDDi and the 1.8 TDCi, or the 1.6 petrol engine. I would appreciate any comments or advise on which is the better to buy.
I do about 10,000 miles/year, including long runs from East Anglia to Scotland 4-5 times a year Read more
Buying a 10 or 12 year old car is pretty much a gamble, you may get a good one or you may get a money pit. Buy on condition not on model or spec plus if there is something you are not sure about walk away, there are plenty more.
I have just bought a 2004 Mazda 3 diesel and am having issues with the near-side headlight. The bulb was blown and did need replacing but when switched headlights on the new bulb doesn't work. I checked all the fuses and they are OK.
I don't have a multi-meter to check things (not that I would know what I'm doing anyway) but the terminal looks OK that plugs onto the bulb.... Read more
Checked all the relevant fuses and unfortunately still have the issue.
Looks like I'll have to take it to the auto-electrician.
Hello all - perhaps a silly question but should I keep the locking wheel nut key thingy in the car or not?
There is also a peice of paper with a code that is obviously meant to be keep out of the car but with the key thing itself is seems a choice between;... Read more
I always put the locking wheel nut in its little plastic bag, in the 'bin' next to the fag lighter. Can't see it, never forget where it is.
Why is it that when I am backing out of a space in the supermarket and I am half way out, some idiot decides to squeeze past me, leaving me to slam on the brakes, or worse some pedestrian steps out into the path of my reversing car. This is true also if I decide to reverse into a space
Why is it that when I decided to park my car away from the store were there are lots of spaces (which I usually do) someone parks their car right next to mine.... Read more
I live in a cul de sac with a turning bell at end. Only logical approach to my drive is to go past and reverse in.
As it's also a quiet dead end road we also postively encourage kids to treat it as a play street. ...

I have a nice simple clutch test, there are risks.
Pull the handbrake on as hard as you can then in 1st let the clutch up and try and pull away,it should stall,if it doesn't and revs up then the clutch is shot,BUT,this will probably kill what little life is left in the clutch.
