Mazda 3 2004 - Headlight replaced, fuse OK but still not working - davenpearsall

I have just bought a 2004 Mazda 3 diesel and am having issues with the near-side headlight. The bulb was blown and did need replacing but when switched headlights on the new bulb doesn't work. I checked all the fuses and they are OK.

I don't have a multi-meter to check things (not that I would know what I'm doing anyway) but the terminal looks OK that plugs onto the bulb.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Assuming the other one is working OK, the easiest course of action is to fit a relay energised from the working light. I did this on a Peugeot 406 with the same problem.

Sounds interesting. This would be a self sort of repair method I guess, rather than fixing the actual issue??

I'm not confident I would be able to do it having quickly googled the method. Does anyone have any idea what is causing the actual problem?

Surely can.t be this difficult to fix.I would recheck the fuses .Also have you changed the correct bulb,is there more than 1 headlight bulb per side?Check the main connector that attaches to the headlight assembly.hth

I shall recheck all the fuses again in the morning when its light but I'm pretty sure the were OK.

Quite fiddly on the Mazda! I've got to change the side-light on the drivers side as well but the manual says its very complicated and should be done by Mazda dealer. Obviously not going to do that but it looks like the whole light casing needs to come out to change the side-light.

I don't suppose the problem is linked in anyway?

Checked all the relevant fuses and unfortunately still have the issue.

Looks like I'll have to take it to the auto-electrician.
