I have noticed this everytime I go abroad. Yesterday I drove from Rotterdam to Schipol and back. Weather was at time terrible, high crosswinds and torrential downpours. Average speed of 60mph or so.

However, despite this, my 98 Alhambra 1.9tdi returned just shy of 60mpg, and road noise was neglible, and smooth ride.... Read more

I'm looking for a £3,500 car to replace my Mazda 6. I don't drive a huge annual mileage, but most individual journeys are long so I want diesel economy, comfort and reliability. A Ford Mondeo or Focus would be suitable, because I need to carry a bike, and it's fine by me if it already has 80,000-odd miles on the clock.

I have a 2004 Accord Tourer iCTDI that I have had from new. It will be nine years old in March, and, touch wood, it has been problem free. I don't cover enormous mileages on an annual basis, but I don't use it for short journeys. I tow a caravan, so a diesel is more or less a necessity. The diesel engine is quiet, and when driving solo, fully laden, on the French autoroutes I achieve around 54 mpg.

Unfortunately, there won't be a new Accord in the UK for the foreseeable future, so I'll be changing the Accord for a New CR-V iDTEC

Plenty of results of internet searches about this seemingly common problem. Took off a plug lead and one side of the plug chamber had half a thimblefull of water in it. Plugs had tracking marks, diagnostic said misfire cylinder 1. Cleaned all out, cleaned leads, replaced plugs. A few weeks later, the fault is back, this time the water in the other chamber.

Checked carefully around washer jets with watering can, no leaks, although water does appear to travel from around the wiper pivot and into the engine bay over the exhaust manifold, not sure if a gasket or rubber washer might have gone there - is water supposed to drain around the wiper shaft?... To help others with this problem (and it seems common on this car), I tried to replicate the washer leak with a hose, nothing came through. The air filter cover occupies the whole top of the engine so I couldn't see how water was getting in. I was convinced it was the core plugs and took it to our local Ford dealer to ask. They quoted 1.5hrs at £80/hr to fix it so we left it with them. They fixed the car the same day and said it was a washer leak, the core plugs were fine so they sealed the washer jets and fitted new plugs & leads and charged just an hours labour. The car running perfectly now.

We need another roomy 5 seater.
With vauxhall now using the doblo and also Ram set to start using the doblo in the USA, the Doblo makes sense.
We previously had numerous Berlingos, but we wont be doing anymore than 6,000 miles in this car, so another 1.6 diesel berlingo does not make sense and the 1.6 petrol engine in the berlingo is awful with no pick up anywhere in the rev range.
But the best part is the price, a fiat dealer will sell me a brand new doblo my life 1.4 petrol for £9.2k on the road (solid paint - but that is fine).
Alternativly, I can have a 62 doblo 1.6 diesel my life for £11.7k or a 12 doblo 2.0 diesel for £11.5k

I was wondering,

What is the 1.4 petrol unit like?
Is it reliable? Is it belt or chain cam?
What else it is used in? (the 1.4 unit in the qubo is only 74bhp where the doblo 1.4 has 95bhp, so im not sure if this is the same engine).
Any other experiences of the current shape doblo?

Thank you for all the replies.

The Doblo 1.4 is a 16v, which could be the same engine as the 1.4 16v Bravo, although that only has 90bhp.

The Punto 1.4 is either an 8v or the multiair petrol engine, with many more horses!

I have booked my car in to a tyre depot to have my winter tyres refitted. However I happened to notice that one of the winter tyres is a different size from the other 3. The correct size is 205/55/16 but one tyre is 215/55/16. These tyres have already had two winters of use without any problem but I am a bit concerned from a safety point of view.

Following this discovery I contacted the outlet who supplied these tyres originally and they have agreed that they did fit them but they said that they have never supplied any 215/55/16 tyres of that brand so it must have been a supply problem at the manufacturer's end.

Does anyone have any knowledge of the situation and suggestions for what I should do next please? Read more
