I`ve recently noticed this rubbing-grinding noise coming from underneath the front of the car. It is only noticable at very low speed and more so when turning and when the car is slowing down from a higher speed. I thought that it might be a worn driveshaft joint or bearing so I had the car in with the dealer today. After examining the car they told me that the brake pads had a bit of a glaze on them and so they removed them, buffed them and refitted them. These pads were changed about 3500 miles ago both front and rear at 65000 miles and at the time (2 months ago) I was told the discs were in good condition. After leaving the dealer I noticed this noise has started again although it`s not as bad as it was. Anyone got any idea what this problem might be? Read more

Hi,

Has anyone else with an i20 had problems with their door handles rubbing the paint off the doors so much that it's making them rust?... Read more

Dealer said there's a small dial under steering that allows the dash to be brightened/dimmed and they had turned it down. Didn't think they would have needed to. I suppose I had better read my manual again!

I have a problem with the handbrake on my Puma i.e. it will not hold on both rear wheels.

I have changed the brake shoes and free'd off the adjusters. I have changed the brake cables and adjusted the handbrake but it still will not hold equally on both wheels. One wheel holds better than the other but on a hill it will not safely hold the car.... Read more

Is it a belt driven pump? If so they are classic symptoms of the belt slipping.

I replaced the fuel filter a few months ago after a breakdown, (symptoms of running out of fuel). This fixed the car and that started another problem. difficult starting. I now have to prime the fuel on a regular basis to start. Then again another breakdown, same symptoms, another filter, and away she went. I have renewed the leakoff pipes, and when she is running pulls like a train. Has 185,000 on the clock, so just run in.....

I was told that these engines perform best with original Peugeot filters only, the replacements I used were NOT could this be a fact , or just fiction.... Read more

If the seal has gone you will be able to see it leaking.

I have used pattern filters on most of my diesels and never had a problem....

I dont care what other car it may or may not look like, it looks fantastic! As for all the naysayers concerns with a 1.0 litre engine. Read any test of the 1.0 Focus, its highly rated for performance and refinement. We are not talking about a 1980s 1.0 Fiesta/Metro tyoe motor here, but a state of the art engine producing 123bhp. Besides the usual 2.0litre diesel motors are still there.

Surely, an almost impossible question to answer except....if you buy a car privately at that price without knowing its provenance then it's probably complete pot luck.

I would keep your options open regarding make, model, age etc, take someone who knows about cars (to check the basics) with you when you go to view and go by gut instinct regarding who is selling it. Ask as many questions as possible and see if the seller replies congruently....

This week's Auto Express has a review of eight new-model tyres, six of which have the new tyre ratings, two haven't been reviewed yet.

It's interesting to note that on the "wet grip" category, only the Michelin Energy Saver+ tyre has the highest grade A rating. This raised an eyebrow with me straight away.... Read more

Well put GB, these ratings fall into the same gambit as EU fuel consupmtion figures, only good under the proscribed testing conditions. If choosing a tyre from reviews ensure they are real world ones and not from the manufacturers tests.
