Parking

Can anyone help please? I have just received a Parking Enforcement Notice from APCOA for failing to park in a designated parking area at Luton Airport. My husband pulled over for no longer than 40 seconds to check our car park address on our paperwork!! They are saying £80 is chargable.

Until 30th Sept, parking companies could only take civil legal action against the driver - but the registered keeper was under no obligation to name the driver - unlike criminal offences on public highway.

From 1st Oct, the parking company can take civil legal action against the registered owner so simply ignoring the PCN may not work.

My vehicle was recently hit by a third party which caused visible panel damage and unseen suspension damage. The 3rd party insurance (Saga) has been exemplary in arranging a hire car and to have the bodywork repaired at the local Volvo dealership in Warrington. However, the body shop allowed me to drive the car away without repairing the damaged suspension. As soon as I approached motorway speeds, the vehicle began swerving violently and cork-screwing after hitting road undulations and proved difficult to control under braking.

Needless to say, the car is back at the body shop. They claim to have performed a wheel alignment check and to have driven the vehicle on a test run. After my motorway experience I drove into a branch of ATS and asked them to look at the shock absorbers. They put the car on a ramp and immediately declared that the offside rear suspension area had been damaged enough to put the wheel visibly out of alignment.

I want to know why the repairers did not spot this and I also know that they did not drive the vehicle on a test run because I left it with with them with no fuel and that they did not put any fuel in. What redress do I have against the repairers? I feel that they have endangered my life through negligence. Would I be able to sue and if so, how should I go about this?

So, HJ is saying that the owner of the car has no redress against the people who told him that they had done a wheel alignment and road test (while they were repairing the car, when it is obvious that they did not! Yes the insured person can claim for the suspension damage, but HJ fails to ask why it was missed! If i was the claimant i would demand to see where the invoice is for this work. It is immaterial who is paying for the work, if it was accident, or warranty or the individual customer paying, there is an explicit right to have work done AND DONE properly if it is invoiced for.

I know the road was rotten, but Lordy what a performance. Not only closing down at 9:00 pm, but then diverting traffic via all point of the compass and sich places as Theale, Maidenhead, Wantage, Ashby de la Zouch and possibly Inverness. Grant me sanity .... Read more

This is a pipe / hose approx 1ft in length with a diameter of about 10cm. It has a ribbed / flexible section, which is similar to bendy straws. It has an S clip on it which I presume connects to a similar pipe near by but has unclipped itself.

Area is the underside roughly below where the gear stick is. Pipe is dry; not dripping liqud.... Read more

Dear Honest John,

I was involved in a non fault car accident on 10 July 2012, I was able to exchange details with the other driver no problem. The following day I reported this to my insurance company 'Admiral' and submitted a claim recovering all costs from the other side, and was refered to albany assistance limited who handle all such claims on admirals behalf. I later had a call from the third party's insuruer to confirm a few details during which I was told their 'client' had admited fault for the accident. ... Read more

The Small Claims track of the County Court is there to work for you. However, although you may get a judgement and a sum of money awarded to you, enforcement of this payment is entirely another matter. Getting £1000 from someone with a very low disposable income can be problematical

Does anyone know which wires to join to wire the blower back in?

I have a replacement fan from a breakers but it doesn't have the plug attached just a black wire and a white wire. I have found a plug under the gove box which has 4 wires which I assume that it joins to, but which wires go to which?... Read more

If your original one has four wires that would suggest you have climate control or at least aircon, the extra wires control the fan speed by means of an internal transistor regulator in the motor assembly. You could remove this from your old unit and fit it to the replacement but that could be where the fault lies. If its the same as the Xantia units the regulator is usually the cause of the problem.

Recently a friend who happens to be an engineer had a look over my new purchase, as above ten year old car, but I have been the owner for 6 months. He commented

No dealer/manufacturer on planet earth is going to give or sell you a fully comprehensive warranty on a 10 year old car, most new car warranties are not that generous. Be grateful they have taken you seriously and have offered you a discounted price (even though they probably increased it before the discount) and a loan car.

Had a Golf with a whiney gearbox, first spotted it at about 75,000 miles, had to get bearings sorted when it had done 105,000 miles 2 years later, cost £350 including a clutch while the box was out. Wife had a Bluebird, from noise starting to failure it was only a few weeks, again the cost was about £300 but no clutch needed....

This is a similar thread to one posted on 25 Jul by Kay Williams. It is almost certainly a scam as the wording on the email I received is identical:

Good evening Alex,
Thanks for the response. The price of the vehicle is fine and i am happy to purchase it so would want the advert removed online. I am getting this for my partner in Malaysia and will not be able to come for inspection cos I work offshore (NAME: Alba Phase II, LOCATION: North Sea Northern, UK. BLOCK: 16 / 26 WATER DEPTH: 138m RESERVES: 400 million barrels recoverable reserves DISCOVERED: 1984 FIRST PRODUCTION: January 1994). Please confirm the condition of the vehicle and send me a photo of the engine. I am only able to handle payment via pay pal and all i will require to make payment is your pay pal name and email address. If you do not already have a pay pal account set up, you can visit the pay pal website to set up an account as it is easy secure and convenient to use. I have requested the services of a freight company that will handle the pick up and delivery of the vehicle to Malaysia. The freight company will also handle any paper work regarding the purchase/sale on my behalf as they have the power of attorney to do so. Look forward to hear from you, many thanks.
