Could someone please throw some light on whether or not Land Rover reserve the right to void a customers warranty on a new vehicle if the customer buys and has fitted a Tow Bar from an NTTA authorised Centre.
Land Rover say they will only approve their own branded versions but they are double the cost of the same Branded style (Westfalia or Witter) and their fitting charges are astronomical.... Read more
I have the answer to the Uk defesite and the melting o9f the polar ice cap!
Turn off traffic lights at non peak times, especially at night.
I have no idea how much it costs to run a traffic light, let use use a figure of £1 a day.
Around a traffic island were I live there are 20 lights, that is running cost of £7300 per year,. Another roundabout has 16, the next one also has 16, a few yards up the road there are 12 on the next roundabout, stopping traffic at 3 am when there is non. In addition there are lights that are guarding entrances to closed office complex, supermarkets and industrial estate. Then there are the many pelican lights when there are no pedestrians.
And we have not even started on the cost to stranded vehicles at traffic lights that have stopped a vehicle while nothing else is on the road.
Here is a government petition if anyone is interested, sadly due to close soon, but sign it anyway

Alternatively why do so many drivers leave their brake lights on whilst they are waiting at traffic lights ? Turn all of those brake lights off and we would save over 100 megawatts per day in the UK along, which translates to saving a heck of a lot of fuel and costs.
Savings aside, this insistence on balancing on the footbrake drives me mad. Put your damned handbrake on!!!!

Even though the battery is in the boot, you can charge it from the engine bay ;)...
A friend of ours bumped the back of our car whilst we were on holiday, which slightly damaged the bumper and boot lock. He of course accepted liability and contacted his insurers to make a claim for the repairs to our car (we went to a reputable repairer locally who estimated the work at £1000ish if a ford bumper was fitted, so said to get it done on the insurance).
Our friend's insurers (admiral) have now come back to us and said that the work will cost £1700 and have valued our car at £900; therefore they are saying that it is economically unviable to repair. The car works fine, so we could take the £850 and get the car back, then get it repaired ourselves but can we push for them to do the repairs. I'd be grateful if anyone could clarify what our legal entitlement is.
Many thanks,

Hi,
I guess the problem would be that the insurance company would pay you £850 /£900 ,and would then own your car ,which would then have a value of at least £200 ,perhaps more .depending on the cars age and the cost of repairing it .
It would probably be listed as a cat d ,whether you buy it back or not .and would always have a reduced value because it would always be a cat d .
So , at the end it comes down to pure economics .how much will the insurance company pay and then leave the car with you .deduct from that the cost of the repair .How much money are you then left with if anything .
Finally the insurance company are obliged to leave you in a situation where you are no worse off than you were prior to the accident . In effect if your car had a retail value of £900 prior to the accident that's what they will pay .
Retail values are debatable ,check out how much you could buy a similair car to your own ,with similair mileage and condition ,length of mot etc .That would be the amount you're entitled to ,sadly you cannot force the insurance company to repair your car .
If you do decide to repair your car ,buying pattern and second hand parts will dramatically reduce the total cost .
Good luck ,please let the forum know the outcome ,your experience will help others .
Can anyone please help! My car wouldn't start so the garage put in a new relay and temperature transmitter. After this the car would only start when the EPC light came on but something that the garage warned me about. Whilst ever the light was on the car would start and work okay. When the key was turned the light would come on every two or three tries but then it became every ten or eleven but again, when the EPC light came on the ignition would work. Unfortunately I now have no light and no turnover.
The RAC are at a complete loss, been out twice, and diagnosed everything from a problem with the transponder key to a defective control unit. The codes were reset and all should have worked according to the man that came out but after two hours he just couldn't find the fault. He eventually said it was a wiring problem.... Read more

in a couple of weeks at local dealer, how will I know if they've checked everything properly? It's a very small town so hopefully they are trading on a good reputation.
Anything else I should look too, aside from what is covered in service? It's a diesel automatic with 9k on the clock. Read more
I have a Hyundai Santa Fe diesel auto (basically same car as yours) and was quoted £345 by my local dealer for the first service (20k miles or 12 months - mine was 10 months) but I had purchased a 5 year service plan for £1,100. On a Hyundai owners website people report paying £200 upwards for what is just an oil and filter change and an inspection - I had tyre wear and pressure check and computer scan ( all clear).
Hi I'm trying this forum to see if anyone can help me as the Subaru dealer has said they cannot find a problem...

I would probably call the claims line first.

I also agree with the above statements !
Why on earth spend all that money on a car and then cheap skate on a tow bar ?...
