My Rav4 (2002) automatic is giving troubles intermttently. It may have no creep on level ground when drive is selected, or it is reluctant to change from 1 to 2 without slipping as if in neutral and then may change with a bump. Another event is up a muddy lane it may slow down with the engine labouring but may go OK after stopping and reselecting D or L. The oil was OK but changed as a precaution but changing it had no effect. Read more
Hello, First post but I've read a lot of the old threads.
I've taken first option on a 59plate fabia estate 1.6 petrol, automatic gearbox, top spec.... Read more
Fabia is a nice small car and the estate makes it a sensible load carrier. Most people would shrink with horror at a 1.6 auto, and you may find that the car is under powered,
We have a 1.6auto Focus and it is very adequately nimble with plenty of power. The thing about autos is you can put your foot down without fear of breaking the engine or gearbox if it's warmed up. It spins up to the red line and changes up at exactly the right time so when overtaking that 40mph artic holding everyone up [although most these days have the decency to break their speed limit otherwise the non-motorway roads would be gridlocked] you only have to worry about the steering! This sort of 'italian tuneup' is actually good for the engine as well; gets the oil circulating nicely along the passageways....
My sons saxo was playing up two weeks ago. It was reving high. It was plugged in and no fault found. Since then, all sensors removed, contacts cleaned and then put back on. Now it will not idle and stalls. If i hold the throttle on slightly, it will run but the revs go up and down, they will not be stable. I have thought of everything so now was wondering if a sensor is playing up or not. Any one have any ideas. Read more
I have replaced both cam and crank sensors. The car is working fine, no problems except the management light stays on. I have cleared the code 0340, but it comes back on and stays on. Every now and then the light goes off and stays off til I use the car again. I put a diagnostic reader on and it tells me cam sensor 0340 signal not present intermittant. Has anyone had the same problem and some tips for me? Read more

Just as a matter of interest have you checked the the main ECU infront of the windscreen when the water drains are not free then ali sorts of funny things happen untill the ECU fries. Also the seat mats have a habit of acting up.
hi all, we have purchased a above vehicle 2001 model, doesnt have a hand book. Could anyone help? ie perhaps a site to download from, not too much money, such as haynes!

IIRC Vauxhall have them available on-line, you just need to print it.
The airblower on my daughters Fiesta is not working, whilst its not a big issue now, it will be very soon during the winter months when her windscreen gets condensation on it, and of course its an MOT failure (10 months away).
So checked the fuse, thats fine, is anyone aware of common airblower faults on Fiestas and what to check out first ? Read more
Could be the motor itself or the speed control circuit, check to see if there is any voltage across the motor when its turned on.
I saw this programme last night by chance but it was rivetting! First bit was about keyless entry BMW's being stolen regularly with a device you plug into the system that reprograms a blank key. Have to say I was somewhat confused by the fact that the alarms don't go off when a window is smashed. I need to check if a Krooklock still fits modern steering wheels!
Next part was awesome - shady used car dealers in Brentford selling absolute rubbish for excessive prices. Lost a bit of credibility as the reporter paid cash without a test drive or seeing the V5. Does however make me wonder why criminal charges are not brought against some of these people.... Read more

Following on from other topics, just wondering whether people think that applying threadlock is a wise precaution to take when tightening caliper bracket securing bolts; maybe--if you give the bolt enough welly--as an alternative to using a torque wrench. Read more
On the Suzi, the gaskets will settle a little, but after the initial retorque from new they're unlikely to squash further, and the torque setting is only 25ft-lb on 14mm nuts & studs.
I believe the loosening is largely due to the one-piece head casting above 3 separate barrels without through-studs to the crankcase ... this allows the barrels to vibrate slightly relative to the head, and I reckon this vibration and slight fretting loosens some of the nuts. ...
First up-I'm not thinking of buying one!
Secondly, I know this breed of vehicle (rightly) attracts scorn.... Read more
Drove an earlier model some time ago and it was awesome. If you are in the market for such a beast then it has to be on the list to try. Would have to be in a dark colour with dark windows though otherwise just looks too ordinary, it has to look mean to give itself the presence.

My auto specialist in Merthyr Tydfil after much thought, changed the oil filter in the auto box (and also changed the recently changed ATF oil) and what an improvement! I have done about six journeys and so far the gear changes have been satisfactory. This, after having been to two main dealers for tests with no real results, one said to have the gearbox re-conditioned.
