I brought a vauxhall Zafira B on the 11/08/2012 and whilst paying for the car I paid £700 for AA extended Gold Warranty. Whilst travelling home the other night 04/09/2012 I noticed a load of white smoke, I called the AA who said I had to take the car to a garage that they recommend (halfords in Hemel Hempstead). I took try car to them to be told hours later that they don't have the facilities to diagnose my car and to take it either to a diesel specialisted or to a main dealer. I called AA to be informed that they would only pay £39 per hour labour and what ever the diagnoses is, they will only pay for non orrignal parts. The AA recommend that I do not really use the car as this would make warranty void as I would cause more damage to my. Car but I'm also to find a specialist that should be able to fix my car.
So currently I have a car that I can't use, AA reconmended garage that can't fix my car and a £700 warranty that is not worth the paper it is written on Read more

Hello everyone,

This is my first post and concerns my car i've recently purchased. I suspect i need a new rear wheel bearing but when checking various parts websites 2 different parts are quoted. One is for a car with wide track suspension and one standard. How do i find out what mine is? Read more

There is an ID label in the spare wheel bay, or you may also have one in the service book. Take a photo of it and google the net for 'Vag Option Codes' enter all the code and it will decode them and give you a detailed build of your car. Regards Peter

Have you tested the Glow Plugs are working ok ?

What voltage does the battery show when the car is left overnight ?
Less than 12.1v and the battery is likely to be on its way out.

Do you have old diesel in the fuel tank ? (i.e. more than 30 days old).
(old fuel can cause starting problems)

When cranking the engine test the full voltage is reaching the starter motor.
Sometime a voltage leak can cause starting problems.

Already posted in Technical.

There was no need to post it twice, so please use that thread, where there is a detailed and very helpful reply from Dynamic Dave who is a Vectra owner.

My partner viewed a car at a dealer (on her own) & left a deposit. The V5 was not available when she went to collect it & was told that it would be sent signed by them & posted to her & that she should then complete the purchasers section & send off to the DVLA (this has not yet arrived).

When she collected the car it was obvious (not obviously to her) that it had been repaired to a very poor standard along with other mechanical issues. We had the car was inspected & were told that to rectify the issues would cost in the region of £900.

I’m aware that she can reject the car under the sale of goods act (but the dealer has said he wont do this & it’s obviously going to be hassle with him) what's her legal position regarding the unsigned V5? Read more

You really have to give the dealer the right to address the issues first before you reject out of hand. Rejecting a new car is difficult let alone a used one.

Your first port of call is to try and be reasonable with the dealer and hope they react in an equally reasonable manner and try and address your concerns with the car. The dealer does have the right to try and fix the car first....

Term life insurance is the original form of life insurance and is considered to be pure insurance protection because it builds no cash value. This is in contrast to permanent life
insurance such as whole life, universal life, and variable universal life. Term life insurance is the most basic form of life insurance and is the least expensive means of insuring a life.

Fair point, Bonzo, but I hope you see why we have to stop it: we have advertisers who pay good money to advertise on here - irritating as it is sometimes when the adverts interfere with use of the forum - and they wouldn't want to continue if they see others getting free publicity just by posting their websites on the forum.

Do you think this is a big job, if I take to garage, what's best thing to say to do. How much is a new sensor?
Thanks for your help...

I drew up behind a parked car tonight with my headlights on dipped beam. The rear numberplate of the parked car was effectively unreadable because the plate reflected light in vertical lines. When I switch off the dipped beam (onto sidelights) the numberplate was clearer but still unreadable. When I switched off the lights completely the numberplate was perfectly legible in the ambient street lighting. To make sure my eyes were not deceiving me I tried the same with all the parked cars for the next 50 yds and they were all perfectly legible under headlights.

I said to SWMBO that the numberplates must be made to defeat the gantry cameras that register average speed through a section but she thinks I am a conspiracy nut. Has anybody else come across them ? Read more
