Quite a lot I'm afraid. Damaged valves and guides at a minimum. Basically you need a replacement complete cylinder head-although the current one could be refurbished. Sorry to hear of your misfortune.

Have noticed a few noises and wonder if these are anything to seriously be concerned about.

1. Have noticed when I touch the accelerator especially when only going 30 MPH or so I can hear one click as my foot applies pressure, this only happens when just touching it with my foot, after applying more presure no noise at all. Its pretty random and dont happen everytime.... Read more

Hi - I've been told by my vw mechanic that my 51 plate Golf mk 5 is making a wirling noise that is coming from the main shaft bearing, and would need a gearbox remove and strip. Is this something to worry about or is the noise more of a nusicance? Will it lead to a failure? Thanks Read more

I seem to be surrounded these days by cherished or (depending on your point of view) prat plates.

We surely can not now be far from the tipping point when the most cool, with-it, right on, must- have plates to own are the ones provided free by the DVLC.... Read more

Hi,

I have a 2000 Ford galaxy (facelift) and the indicators, hazards and wipers have packed up. The central locking still works but not on the key fob. I have continuity checked all the fuses inside the car, replaced the multi function timer unit and checked I have 12volts to the timer unit. I'm not sure if the new timer unit works but what are the odds!?? Can anyone recommend anything else I can check?

Many thanks, Matt Read more

Hi,

thanks for your reply!

FIXED!!!

I checked the fuses you mentioned and all was good. Checked the connections to the fuses above the battery and spotted a damaged wire. Checked it and it had corroded entirely in half! In-line splice and she's good to go!

Thanks a lot for your advice! :)

Hi, I purchased a vehicle from a motor trader, handed over cash for the sum of £8000,the trader was selling this particular vehicle for a customer of his (sale or return),i took the vehicle along with the v5 doc which is registered to me now,hpi clear certificate, all other doc's and keys and a receipt. The trader then all of a sudden a couple of weeks later vanished, and have been told that the trader did not pay the customer the £8000. Where do i stand on this,is this just a case where its civil between the previous owner who had it up as sales or return and had a verbal agreement with the trader. Would i be able to keep the car etc, some advice on the next steps would be great. Thanks Read more

Have you got or retained any bill of sale or anyway of substantiating that the the money given over was for the car in question.

Hi, I bought a 1999 Peugeot 306 1.4 as a non runner, with a suspected ECU fault. A new ECU had been put on the car, the crank sensor changed but the car still wouldn't start. The old ECU has been put back on the car.

It turns over, I believe it to be getting fuel, but it doesn't smell flooded, you can hear the fuel pump when the ignition is switched on. I decided to check the coil pack, and didn't find a spark, so I bought another, still no spark. The crank sensor has been replaced so I'm assuming that it's fine. When the ignition is turned on, the radiator fan turns on, which doesn't seem right considering the engine isn't hot. ... Read more

Hi, I've recently bought a 5 year old focus from a main ford dealership. I've been driving it a week and have discovered 3 heating elements in the rear windscreen don't work and a little rattling noise from the front of the car when travelling on the motorway. do you think it reasonable to take it back for the dealer to remedy these issues?? The rattle from the front of the car could be the rubber wheel arch liners vibrating, it's a common problem, it usually sounds like a rattle behind the dash or glove box and occurs at certain speeds. The front left side is the usual offender. There should be about 3 or so stickers around the outside of the rubber wheel arch. Put your fingers around the rubber wheel arches and if you find there is play then stick a couple or so 1" round heavy duty felt pads around the rubber, that will stop the rattle (if that's the problem of course).

I managed to put about 12 litres of V-Power petriol into my empty Leon tank and then proceeded to brim it with around 45 litres of V-Power diesel.

Like an idiot (as I now know) I started the car and thinking I may have gotten away with it, drove it for around 10 miles whereupon the car spluttered to a halt.... Read more

I'm not so sure that the Bosch VP rotary pumps (in direct injection guise) are any more robust than common rail. The ubiquitous Bosch VP pump wasn't the most robust pump. I'm sure a lot of CR diesels have been 'treated' to a dose of unleaded by an unwitting occasional user and quietly topped up with diesel and survived.

I think there's a good chance that when drained pf petrol and refilled, this pump will live to fight another day.
