My '11 reg 3008 163 Sport suffers from excesive and intrusive wind noise above 40mph which I believe to be caused by the large door mirrors.
Does anyone else suffer from this problem and has anyone been able to reduce the noise?... Read more
We have bought a toyota yaris. The rear wiper does not work. Looking at the connection, there are two blue wires and one black and white wire.
Assuming the black and white is common / negative there is just under 12V between one blue and the common. There is then only milliVolts between the other blue and common at the motor connection plug.... Read more
I think one supply is from the wash/wipe switch and one from the wipe switch.. Try operating the wash/wipe. If the wiper still does not work, you should check the voltages. If both Blue to earth (BW) are 12V the motor is dead.....
I've just bought a Kangoo van 865D 2001 reg with 102k on the clock, I've been unable to establish whether it has had a cambelt change. My local garage has told me that it should get changed at 72k maximum, is it likely that considering that it has done 102k this vehicle has all ready had a cambelt change?

Thanks for all the replies. I have resurrected my old SeatCupra.Net account! Wanted to get some independent opinions too, but seems like no-one on here is running an older Leon.

Helping a mate out, I ordered up a starter motor that had failed (he has no internet), anyway, in my foolishness, I also offered to fit it for him.
BIG MISTAKE! Disconnected the battery, fitter the starter, no problems, doddle. Problem comes when reconnecting battery. Imobilizer freaks out, flashing red light on dash, flashing of headlamps.
Put the code in, keypad goes green (code accepted), but the alarm condition remains. Tried leaving it, ignition on, ignition off, battery off. No change..
Currently battery is disconnected overnight, and on charge. Will try again. Mate needs his car for work :-(

Just to follow this up, if anyone else gets caught out by one of these French POS, here is what I gleaned.
Fixing his remote keyfob was the key literally (thankfully I am handy with a soldering iron).......
I purchased a used VW from a VW dealer in March 2012. In August I had my car impounded by the DVLA because unknown to myself the car was actually un-taxed since February 2012. When I bought the car I was assured that the car was fully taxed until 31/12/2012. It has since come to light that the tax disc on display in the car was for the private registration number plate of the previous owner and was not registered to new car plate ever since the previous owner part-exchanged the car. VW bought a new tax disc for my car after I visited the showroom to sort out the matter. Until this point I had been unknowingly driving an untaxed car for over 4 months due to a mistake made by VW.
I was on annual leave when the car was impounded and it took a lot of my time on holiday to telephone the police, the nearby car pounds and Trace trying to find out if the car had been impounded or stolen. We were in London and missed most of an Olympics event that we had tickets to whilst waiting to talk to the police in person and report the car as lost or stolen. ... Read more
I think the VW dealer (not VW themselves, incidentally) has been fair to you, so take one of the offers. Fortunately insurance isn't an issue as you didn't have a claim and there was no loss to you, so I don't see how you can expect compensation for that.

Most cars come with different add-ons - under the bonnet/dashboard things are often the same.
Cruise Control was an option on a neighbour's SAAB but at £300+ it was not an option. ...
I bought the above as a runabout for my daughter some years ago and it has given good service. However recently a fault has developed with the self cancelling indicator stalk mounted on the steering column. The indicators work OK when used to indicate left or right turns but do not self cancel when the wheel is turned back to central position after the turn has been completed, obviously a trip or lever which operates the mechanism inside the unit has broken off. I am told by a Dealer it will cost about £350 to replace the switch and do not want to spend that much on what is now an old car. I am told there are garages etc that can repair the existing unit so does anyone know of such a place preferably in the Midlands area.

Hello Backroomers
I was called today by a company called Copart. The (pleasant enough) caller asked me "when would you like your Ford Fiesta collected?" She knew my full name and my mobile number. I didn't have the foggiest what she was on about and told her so. She said her information was from 'Admiral' (presumably the insurance company, with which I have never had a policy).... Read more
Hi, thanks for the reply but panic appears to be over. Looks like a person living at a property of mine (genuine guy) has indeed had his car written off but somehow his insurance company incorrectly gave the property owner's details to the salvage company (Copart). Copart have confirmed they are liaising with Admiral on this and tenant has confirmed that he was wondering why the salvage company had not contacted him yet. So, appears to be a mistake at this stage.
Actually, Admiral did answer my call also (eventually) and at least confirmed that they do not have a policy in my name or for a car with my car's reg, so unlikely to be something dodgy....
Fixed!
The black outer mirror cover was not clipped in close to the window glass and was not flush. A little mechanical manipulation and the 2 halves pop back together. Push them together hard and the gap disappears - that should fix the noise problem....
