Firstly, apologies for joining and asking a question straight away but having a bit of trouble with our vw touran and hoping someone here might be able to help. Over the last few days, on two occasions while driving along the car has beeped three times and the power steering has stopped working for a second or so, then started working again fine. I have a feeling the rack might be on the way out but hoping not as we are due to drive 300 miles down to cornwall next weekend. Any help or ideas on what to check would be great thanks. Read more

Having bought the vehicle from a so-called reputable dealer, on finance (Carlyle, now known as MotoNovo), in January 2012, atfer 3 weeks faults occurred. Took the vehicle back to the dealer, they found holes drilled in the bottom of the air filter housing and air ducts missing; AC compressor found to have a hole in the side of it ... to name a few problems. According to the Dealer they had "Pre-sale checked"; "preparation"; "serviced" and MOT'd this vehicle before selling it ... surely they would have come across these problems then? To cut a very long and frustrating story short, the dealer has on numerous occasions repaired faults/damages, vehicle in the garage for 5 weeks at one point having engine replaced. The vehicle is on a '57 plate and had 47350 on the mileometer when purchased.
Collected vehicle after last repair, still problems. Having communicated these issues with the Finance company, was told not to go back to the dealer that they would take action. The next thing I receive an email from Finance Company's solicitor. This was in May 2012, the dealer has come back to say we do not have "reasonable grounds" to reject this vehicle and repudiate the HP Agreement. I totally disagree with this as the vehicle is still unfit for purpose. Solicitor responded on my behalf to the dealer and I've heard nothing since. Keep chasing the Solicitor who is now awaiting instructions from their client, the Finance company. I need to escalate this as it is now beyond frustrating. I've tried for two days now, continually on re-dial, to make telephone contact with the Finance company (MotoNovo), constantly engaged from 8:30am to 18:00pm, I've emailed with urgency and still not received anything. Customer Service is shocking.... Read more
Hi angie,
That's great news ,your persistence paid off ,Thank you for letting the forum know .
My Ford Ka is just coming up to its 9th birthday, and has just got through the MOT (with a couple of hundred pounds of work - see 008 and 009 below). What do people make of these advisory items? Which ones should I be concerned about - and how concerned should I be?

Hi, I've been trying to troubleshoot a misfire/anti-pollution/cat converter fault.
I've read the code and it was a P0300, random misfire. I used HT testers to comfirm that the coil pack is working. I've had the ECU tested and confirmed okay by ECU Doctor.
I've pulled the injectors and can see that the one nearest the belts (Numbered four by the French I think) does not fire. I've swapped that injector with another and the fault does not move. I've continuity tested the wiring harness and the loom between the harness and ECU with a multimeter and they all seem fine.
I've also tried a different wiring harness but I get the same fault. If I move the harness to the left or right (connected to only three injectors) the fault always stays with the 4th position on the wirring harness.
I tried to take a voltage reading at each harness position with the DMM while cranking. While the results looked inconclusive, it did seem like the fault position gave a slighly lower value.
Not sure what to try next, how much voltage is required to open the injector? What could cause a voltage drop?

I had the dreaded sticking ignition key problem on this thing. Most places would seem to suggest that replacing the lock barrel is a must to fix this one.... Read more

Hi all ,
Thankyou for the info ,I'm making some progress with sorting the car ,first the harsh noisy ride .
Unbeleivabley the guy I bought it from had the tyre pressures on every tyre at 60 psi ,the front o,side tyre was at 70 !
After I bought the car I drove home at 70 mph on a motorway for an hour and 20 minutes , it makes me cold just thinking about it .im lucky not to have had a blow out . Setting the tyres to the correct psi has had a dramatic effect on road noise ,and handling . I can even hear the loose exhaust knocking at the rear of the car on every road bump .
Now it's quite pleasant to drive but still seems underpowered ,I can't imagine how slow a 1.4 must feel if a 1.6 feels so sluggish .It really needs higher revs to move along .
I've also managed to establish the cars true identity ,the v5 lists it as a base model Essence ,but seat uk list it as a reference sport .Seat uk ,think that the dealer staff incorrectly registered the car as a base model when it was first registered .
The used car trade can be a right pain at times .

The local Volvo dealer has offered a free Air con inspection on my 08 V50 and suggested there might be an inherent fault. The Air con is in fact not working and I had thought to go more locally to have it repressurised. This seems to suggest that Volvo might be offering some financial assitance - anyone experience this? I have an S40. I think there is a fault on the condensor on these models. I got some goo from Halfords. It had refrigerant and leak sealer in one canister. I topped it up and the aircon now works OK.
Previously I had it regassed and fast fit but it only worked for about 2 months...
Would a replacement be a straight fit or does it need setting up to my car. I know a few decent mechanics but none that are vw specialists.
