golf 1.4 tsi 140bhp - misfire - adamdav

recently got a used 56 plate golf had now for 10 days got it with 50,000 miles and all was well till i went to pull away from my drive and felt like traction control was kicking in cutting the power then noticed engine management light was flashing pulled over to check with hand book and said possible misfire so then took it to friends house who is a mechanic he plugged in diagnostic kit n came up with cylinder 1 misfire he reckons could be spark plug or more likely coil i was just wondering if this is a common problem would it be better idea to take it back to dealer and hand it back as have read on few places can be a re occuring problem .

any info would be much appreciated as have 4 days left to hand car back n terminante agreement

many thanks

adam

SFAIK a misfire, if prolonged, can kill the catalyst (unburned fuel) - needs sorting quickly

You cant deny that they have produced some petrol units recently which dont exatly scream reliable.

Their Diesels have a much better track record (besides the 2.0PD)

You can't deny that they have produced some CARS recently (well, in the time since the Golf Mk5 was launched) which don't exactly scream reliable!
