I am going to change the engine on my van, I have changed engines several times but wondered if anyone had tips for this one. I changed one in a Bedford Midi years ago and got it out through the drivers door. I know the easiest way is to release it then raise the van on a lift but I dont have a lift!

Is it possible to get this engine out from above?... Read more

2.5 year old Fabia.

Following faults were experienced upon start-up, the window vipers went to top position and appeared locked. Upon switching on-off they were brought down to normal position.... Read more

Hi, Has this fault affected the engine from starting? As with all modern cars the electronics are getting more and more complex. When my father bought his Fabia which is about the same age as yours the dealer explained that some settings can be changed eg. if you don't want the doors to lock automatically when you drive over 5mph etc so your fault could be a gremlin in the cars PCB as you suspect.

Could be worth getting your Skoda main dealer to check it as sometimes a software upgrade can clear the faults. You should be still under guarantee if 2.5 years old....

very economical - on paper maybe

13,000 miles in the lauded VAG 2.0 110bhp common rail diesel taught me a very expensive lesson. Noisy, rough and not very economical....

I can remember being told to stop kicking the back of the drivers seat almost 40 years ago, and now I'm on the receiving end. After 4 hours of repeating "Don't kick the back of my seat" I finally lost my rag and shouted, resulting in a crying child on top of everything else. Surely it wouldn't be hard to put some plastic sheet inside the back of the chair to stop the kicks reaching my back??? I'd rather buy a car with that sort of feature than stop/start tech, satnav, LED lights etc etc etc..... How hard can it be? Read more

What a great thread! I told my wife that with small grandchildren cream leather seats were not a good idea. She keeps a damp microfibre cloth in the boot now.

I have placed an advert to sell a car and have had several "We Buy Any Car" type websites contact me. Having read their terms and conditions I see they charge an upfront admin fee of about £50. Is this a scam? Do they just take the money and not show up or are their offers genuine. www.webuy-autos.com have offered £150 less than my asking price. I am very suspicious. Read more

We have a lot of horses around where I live and quite often have pony and traps using the roads. Today one was spooked by something and ran into a car. Pony sustained a cut leg and the car some minor damage. So the question is, is the rider responsible for the pony's actions or is it just hard luck on the car driver? I don't know much about horses, but I don't believe there's much a rider can do if a horse is spooked. Read more

Actually horses are pretty intelligent with good memories, but as prey animals they are inclined to panic unexpectedly and dramatically, hence the importance of driving very slowly past them. I thought the Mirvahedy case cited above meant that horse owners have strict liability, hence why I have several million British Horse Society liability cover. Though I stand to be corrected. When my dog caused a car crash this went through my household cover as I didn't have dog insurance, this should also cover horse accidents presumably if the rider was negligent or strictly liable.

I was hoping someone can recommend a scanner tool that would work well with my 2001 306 hdi? My engine management light has come on again and im getting tired of paying £40 for a diagnosis. All I want to do is be able to reset the codes and then read the 'actual' codes that come back on

Ive seen a lexia 3 mentioned which I think is around £80 a few times but ive also seen an obd2 scanner for £30 on lonelec.co.uk... Read more
