Hello all,

Dmf s seem to get a lot of bad press these days, as the owner of two diesel cars which are both under warranty what signs are there to indicate a failing dmf.

I was pleased to note that the vauxhall salesman from which the diesel corsa came from went to great lengths to highlight the issues with modern diesels before selling it to me. Apparently vauxhall now considers it policy to highlight these problems to anyone that does not do the mileage to justify a diesel. Read more

The first time I used the heated rear window it did not work. It turns out that the elements in the window had gone, Naively I thought i would get the work done under warranty - however Network Q wasted no time in telling me to get lost.

Network Q didn't like you. I had a rear screen replaced under Network Q warranty on my Astra Sporthatch, and it only had 2 lines of the rear heater not working.

Hi , yesterday I put too much oil in my 1.9 diesel Peugeot expert van . I drove about 10 miles today and then it start smoking , clacking noise and rev went well up.
Stoped on the side of the Rd , no oil spell temp of engine was about 80 but could not start .5 min later it started like nothing happened no smoke no noise drove nice .
3 miles later at a round about , it started again smoke noise and high revs .
By looking around on this web site , too much oil was the problem ( I think )
So I drain 4 pint of the oil . The oil level it's now half way min/ max . What shall I do next .? Do you think I made lot more damage ?thanks .Philippe

Hi.

I have a ford focus 51 reg 1.6 zetec. It has about 127,000 miles on the clock and runs fine. I was on my way back from london last night and the engine management light came on just before I got to oxford services. When I stopped I noticed the engine was making a chugging sound and there was a definate loss of power. When I stopped the car and switched the egnition on the oil pressure light and battery light were on with the engine management light. I checked the oil level and it looked low so I put about 0.5 litres of oil in. I was able to continue my journey but travelled in 4th gear at about 40-45 mph. the car was doing about 2rpm. If I tried to go faster to 50 mph and movinbg into 5th gear the engine management light would start to flash until I slowed down to 40mph again. During all this the temperature remained fine at smack on halfway. It never moved during the whole journey. On the way to london I was doing about 80-85mph and the engine was just under 4,000 prm so all seemed normal. The journey was about 120 miles there and the same back. Any ideas what this is?

Regards

Hi, i have a 2009 clc 200 kompressor which i have had for 20 months now. it has about 25,000 miles on the clock. About 8 months after i bougt the car i noticed that it was making a making a loud noise when driving over 60mph but i assumed that it was the balancing or the tyers. As i only drive in town i dont often drive at high speeds so i didnt notice the problem that often. a few days ago the car was struggling to drive over 40mph without shaking badly and then changing into reverse and drive was making a loud clunking sound. the car is still in warantee so i called mercedes and they came to collect it straight away. The engineer that came said that the drive shaft at the rear of the car had no bolts on it what so ever and it was being held together by a rubber thing (sorry not very experienced). He said that he has never come across something like this before and neither had the guy that recovered the car. He said that the drive shaft would of come off at the back and swung out which i am guessing could of caused a serious accident. Although they are going to fix the car do i have any grounds to ask for compensation as that day i was driving on the M25 with my son and was finding really difficult to control the car i would not like to imagine what would of happened to me if i had continued my journey. Mechanical sympathy is a really useful skill. Even if you don't know what the actual problem is, vibration and unusual noises should set alarm bells ringing, and point you in the direction of help and advice when first noticed. Even on newish top make/spec cars. Or any other mechanical equipment, come to think of it.

Glad that you are getting it repaired and that no unfortunate incident occurred.

For no apparent reason my Grande Punto (1.9 turbo deisal) applies the brakes and stops during journeys. If I turn off the engine and wait 5 or 10 min you can then drive again. Have changed the brake hoses, the Calipers and had it checked on a number of occasions by Fiat and Halfords. No one can find the problem. It is quite an issue as they come on very quickly! Anyone had the problem or can suggest a solution? Read more

I purchased my 2005 Audi A4 2.0 TDi 140 S-Line Avant - Leather, Navigation, Colour coded Optics Grille Kit etc with 78,000 on the clock Oct 2008. its now got 107,000 (approx 9600 p/yr avrg) and I am in the position that I have owned thrown far too much money at a 6 year car with high mileage and now looking at the lease option. Gear box has just gone!

I run my own business (partnership) - not sure if this makes any difference when applying for a lease?

I've found this Audi A4 Allroad on just a couple of sites at this sort of same price, seems too good to be true? :

http://www.stablevehiclecontracts.co...ec.php?VID=105

Seems like a high spec vehicle, probably better in spec and finish than what I have? to me as I currently have?

At approx £270 per month with only 6 payments as deposit and just 23 months contract, seems a good deal, but then this is the first time I have looked at lease?

any expert advice?

thanks Read more

Considering the relatively low mileage of your present Audi and the gearbox has now gone, and you say you've thrown money at it otherwise, i'd wouldn't be giving any business to a company that makes such a poor quality vehicle.

Unless you're going to tell us that Audi are going to fix the thing on a goodwill basis, in which case i shall be the first to praise them....

I bought a new 1.6 TDCi 115 Grand C-Max a week ago, and the performance is extremely poor compared to my old 1.8 TDCi C-Max.

1st gear is extremely short, with huge turbo lag. It's very difficult to get going smoothly. It seems to have an extremely narrow rev range - below 2000 revs it has no pull at all. 2nd Gear is not much better, and 3rd gets bogged down very easily. It makes driving up hills and getting out of junctions very tricky. On the whole it feels laggy and unresponsive, like the car is deliberately holding back. I realise the Grand is a bigger, heavier car than my old C-Max, but I would have thought performance should be better than this.... Read more

I'm not yet sure if there's no fault, but I know that she's experienced the same situation of the petrol running down very quickly, whether she does short or long distances, no matter which independent garage she's used, yet with my car, while not a Peugeot, the petrol runs down at a moderate pace.

I will pass on your pieces of advice to her, and all going well, there'll be a solution to save her buying petrol more frequently than she needs to for her peace of mind.
