I'm set on a Honda Civic 1.6 SE Sport or 1.7 Diesel around 02, preferably 05. But I can't help but notice there's an astounding amount of 1.6 Civics, around the 58-70k mark all automatics, was there something of a fault around this area as yesterday I found at least six, all very cheaply priced, ridiculously low miles for the year and all automatics. Are these to be avoided? If so anything in particular that I should be looking out for on the Manual speeds? I've read athe Civic review on HJ but would welcome any feedback.

Had various Honda auto's, Civics & Accords. Have never been the most exciting boxes but never caused any issues either. Civic's of this age tended to be brought by older drivers and hence might explain the low mileage

After the storms which battered GB the reception on my radio has been terrible. I have been told that my Skoda Fabia 2001 has an Aerial Amplifier and this may have been damaged due to water ingress. Does anyone know the location of this amplifier or anything else that may have caused it? Read more

Peter.N.

Its quite likely at the base of the aerial. If its on the front roof, on many cars you can gain access through the interior light.

Hi, dear friends, this is a good share about VVDI VAG commander software setup and installing driver [youtu.be/on1oLLodZe8 ], I spent a lot of time to find it, I hope it can also help to you! Read more

Give me VCDS for VAG any day. I've yet to see anything better, including VAG5052.

Hi everyone,

Been a while since asked for some advice, but could do with your expertise! I've still got the trusty X-Reg (one of the first Mk 3's) Petrol Mondeo, it's done 77,000 miles now and still starts and runs no problem, had a few electrical issues recently (Automatic Windows, central locking and now the boot opening!) I also don't like the Tax band much these days. Now then onto what to replace her with.... I fancy a chevrolet cruze!, I know some people will question the looks, but I really like it! 1.6ls version, can get one with very few miles on the clock and a couple of years old tops for about 7k.... Anybody drove one? or do I get the MK4 Mondeo (probably a diesel this time?). I like a fairly big car but not essential, just me the Mrs and our new baby. Was also thinking of an Astra. Budget 7k TOPS. Any advise as always would be much appreciated...... Read more

Good point, looking at stats on the web, the Cruze is only a tiny bit smaller than the Mk3 Mondeo (less than 60mm shorter). The Mk4 is a monster, there's one sitting outside and it's almost the same size as the Octavia Estate sat beside it.

Well, he was a paid consultant to Ford and Jaguar and wrote textbooks that are widely used as the basis for many courses on Internal Combustion engines...

The VW 1.4 is a 3 pot-so the 400cc/cylinder is maintained. 60mpg from a small car isn't that special. You can get the same from the 1.9 TDI unit in a Skoda Fabia-and it's a hell of a lot better to driver than the 1.4.

Hello chaps, after watching from afar for some time, I thought I'd like to join in. Please excuse my so so spelling and terrible grammar- I obviously wasn't listening that day at school.

I tend to agree with your general scepticism about modern diesels, if the all round cost is taken into account, I'm not sure they're any cheaper to run than a petrol equivalent, people need to look beyond the mpg figure and maybe include the potential dpf,dmf or turbo replacement cost, just to give themselves a few sleepless nights.... I am a recent convert to Japanese; I've always bought sub £1000 cars over the last 25 odd years of driving and mostly been blessed with good service. My current 1996 1.3 Corolla was bougth as a stop gap after my Puma (great car!) was tail ended and written off. I hated the Corolla at first, as after the Puma it was (and is) a very bland drive BUT it starst first time every time, sailed through its last MOT and has never in 14 months given a hint that it might go amiss. All electrics work perfectly, I'm very impressed with the general build quality (way ahead of the Puma) and generally better than the Skoda Felicia which preceded the Puma.

I have an 02 plate mazda 6, with a 4 speed autobox.

I changed the ATF at 88k and also just changed it at 100k (500 miles ago) when I noticed the leak - hoping it would solve the problem

Hi all, first time posting on here but I've got a bit of a dilemma. I've got a 52 reg VW Bora 130 TDI Sport, which is smart, fast and comfortable for me but costing a bit to keep on the road.

My daily commute is 25 miles each way, which usually goes like this - 12 miles fast-ish country roads, 4 miles motorway which is usually conjested, then the rest on a 60mph dual carriageway but the last mile or two is stop-start. The mpg is best on the country roads and the computer rarely dips below 50 and often shows a lot more but as soon as I hit traffic then it drops into the 40's and in stop-start it's terrible.... 4k goes a long way to keeping a car on the road, carefully choosing a good indie to keep the Bora going may be a good idea. Soon as you get a new car the procss starts again, I'm being b***** minded and hanging on to my 11 year old 'til it's absolutely necessary to change.
