Fiesta 1.4tdi Zetec / Fiesta 1.6tdi zetec - Choice - toshtwo

Hi guys getting a choice of company cars which should I go fo for on the cars stated above

If the 1.6 is more powerful I would go for that, you don't get a fuel consumption penalty for a larger diesel engine in fact it might even be better - if you don't thrash it.

I have owned both, 1.6TDCi far far better including mpg. Too be honest i dont know why they still bother with the 1.4. Its ok if you have a set of ear defenders & a fax machine to send a request when you want to overtake

Our 1.4TDCi overall averaged about 50-53mpg 1.6 tdci averages 54-60 mpg..

1.6TDCi totally different car, loads of grunt, sweet quiet & willing engine, Full of tourque.

Years ago, I remember an engineering professor telling the class that the minimum useful size of a diesel engine was about 400cc/cylinder ie 1600cc for a 4 cylinder engine. As far as I'm aware, the laws of thermodynamics have not changed.

He was speaking spherical objects.

See VW 1.4 and Yaris 1.4 . Both capable of 60mpg plus and 200k miles..

Well, he was a paid consultant to Ford and Jaguar and wrote textbooks that are widely used as the basis for many courses on Internal Combustion engines...

The VW 1.4 is a 3 pot-so the 400cc/cylinder is maintained. 60mpg from a small car isn't that special. You can get the same from the 1.9 TDI unit in a Skoda Fabia-and it's a hell of a lot better to driver than the 1.4.
