Nissan Sunderland breaks UK manufacturing record <*** src="http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/57682000/jpg/_57682820_3b38411a-8c80-4257-93ae-db31a50a4a3d.jpg" alt="Nissan Qashqai on production line" width="304" height="171" /> Extra staff were taken on to meet demand
Nissan produced 480,485 vehicles at its Sunderland plant in 2011, up 14% from 2010 and a new record for a single UK car plant.
The growth was largely down to the success of the Qashqai models, of which just over 300,000 were made.... Read more
Unthrottled, your Renault predates the drop in quality control that happened about 2000. I had seven big family Renaults in a row between 1980 and 2001, the last a terrific 1998 Laguna V6, and all were reliable over very high mileages. As no doubt you know, yours is well worth hanging on to until something expensive goes wrong.
Fortunately the Cashcow, like other cars made by Japanese companies (wherever they are assembled) is made to Japanese production standards and has proved reliable. It just shows that there's nothing much wrong with British workmanship given good components and good people management. Possibly some of these workers' fathers worked for BL, Rootes etc in the 1970s and 80s: properly equipped and managed they too could have produced good cars, as their own fathers did in the 1950s....
I inadvertently learned yesterday that my licence had been revoked some years back. What recourse do I have if I am convinced that this was done without justification?
The background...... Read more
The fact that you don't have a Licence should not cancel your Insurance.
Look at your Certificate. Does it not say that driver is covered PROVIDING that he holds OR HAS HELD a Licence to drive which you have....
My engine coolant is very low, and needs topping up / replacing.
The current coolant is green.
I went to halfords and they had red or blue coolant.
The red seemed to be post 1997 and blue for older cars.
Am I ok to use this blue coolant to top up my current green coolant?
Should I siphon out as much of the old stuff as I can?
Also the Haynes manual talks about the level being in the middle of min and max when cold? Should I therefore not fill it to the max? Read more
Do not use blue-- it may be unsuitable for the seals.

Hi thanks for your replies, they have really helped.
one last question- what will it be like on petrol- mpg etc? It's 1.4 petrol model.
hi, im after any suggestions of what to try next....i have just changed the camshaft position sensor, as suggested by many people as a potential resolution, which has helped - i was towed home last week as i couldnt go more than 100ft with out the light coming back on, but as soon as i go over 50mph, the warning light comes on. if i dont increase my speed, it just flashes with no impact on performance, and stopping/restarting resolves the problem.
however, if i go to overtake someone, the warning light comes on, i feel a sudden loss of power, and then it crawls to a stop, with the engine cutting out as it slows to around 20mph, so just coasting the last part. stopping and restarting resolves the problem, but as this normally happens on a dual carriage way, i cannot increase speed to get back on the carriage way easily without the same problem occuring....
