a) How often should these be replaced? b) Is this usually part of the scheduled service? It's just one of those 'never seen' items, and I'd guess that over a year it must clog up with junk, pollen, grime. Thanks. Read more

Nothing wrong with extended oil changes-providing that they are on a variable service indicator . Except under adverse conditions, 3000 mile oil changes are about as much use as high octane 'premium fuel' in a car that specifies ordinary unleaded. None whatsoever. It's not 'cheap insurance'-it's a waste of money.

I've heard arguments that overly frequent oil changes lead to accelerated engine wear but the theory behind this is sketchy so I'm reserving judgement on that claim.

Hi everybody.......i know this matter has been mauled over, but i've tried to read up on all of the past posts in here, and just need someone to tell me how the legal stance is now.........i oarked in that darn place as they have a closing down sale....had to wait for what seemed an eternity for the staff to actually do anything to help, brought quite a bit...came out went home.....a week later i had to take the bulk of the product back as it was faulty...lol......had a slight debate with the manager, but thought that was it......Suddenly one of these PARKING CHARGE NOTICES, turns up from g24 Ltd demanding money, saying there were prominent signs, which i never saw, going on about limits.......now as i am a disabled driver, i always try to park in the blue badge part, and yes it does take me slightly longer than what it used to to get around, but as i was in the shop the whole of the time, i fail to see why i should be paying it........Now i know that one thread put that the manager can cancel the fine, but i don't think i'm on his christmas card list at the mo....can you please advise me what to do.............sorry about being a bit long winded....lol...........many thanks....whatever

I've had a crash on the M25, following a friend whose car lost total power. I slowed down enough to have written off my car, but the air bags weren't even activated and impact was relatively minimal.

The biggest concern is that I have only been driving for 11 months and the accident is seen as my fault.... Read more

Bad luck about the crash.

If your insurance company has decided your car is write-off, (and assuming you have fully comprehensive insurance) they will offer you an amount of money which supposedly reflects the value of the car, but which might be quite low....

Despite loving this car (it's my wifes) I am now rather angry at the ongoing costs of running the vehicle - so much so that I will not be buying another Mazda. I have written to Mazda and informed them of this - Brick Wall here !!! So let me inform all who may be looking at purchasing this model. After 4 years and 22,000 miles I am now on my third full set of tyres (highlighted in many a forum this problem, and still ongoing for me) , the car has just failed it's MOT as the ABS light was on. The garage I took it to (not Mazda dealer)but local to me and very helpfull on servicing all of my cars for a good few years) informed me that the diagnostics said the ABS pump was Kaput - and it would cost me £1300.00 to replace - backed up by a call from me to Mazda ! I also required 2 x new rear shock absorbers and along with a service has just cost me £2k :-( . I rang Mazda to argue the point over the ABS pump at such a low mileage and how come it cost so much - all met with "well as you have not brought it to us for a service - basically go away !!!.

So I'll just finish by saying despite me owning a Mazda 6 previoulsey (the main reason I bought a 5) I will not be going with this manufacture next time - a shame really as the design of the 5 is brill for families - just be aware you may have to dig deep to run it ! Read more

I have a mazda 5 furano diesel and had the usual 1288 fault code and mazda wanted £1,900 to replace including labour. A few inetrnet searches and I came across s******* in Charlton who replaced the sensor for £300 including labour with lifetime warranty!

My particular Mazda dealer, Invicta in Maidstone, didn't even suggest a repair soultion and wanted me to spend near on £2k on a car worth £5-7k, unbelievable. Ever since they changed from Drake and Fletcher the dealship has gone downhill and I will not be using them again, they even charge me £60 to plus the machine that found the fault code in....

It will no doubt have a control module, I expect the short circuit damaged it.

Is there output from the ECU? I had this problem and it took a while to diagnose it. Water ingress into the wiring loom caused the power suply pin to ve completely corroded away.

How does using the blended E10 unleaded petrol affect consumption? Read more

Ethanol has a lower enthalpy of combustion than gasoline so expect consumption to increase slightly. The increase will be less than 5%-barely noticeable.

Now that we've found out that the original Bobbin Threadbare was a hero from a computer game called Loom, would anyone else care to share with us the idea behind their nom de plume on this forum (or nom de clavier, strictly)? (No pressure if you'd rather keep it secret.)

Interestingly, Bobbin in the game was a chap, whereas his reincarnation is a charming young lady physicist from Preston.... Read more

What didn't I like about the 3 ... good question.

The engine, fuel economy and handling (in the dry) were very good of course. It is a very good car but it is irritating how the motroing press fawn over the 3-series and claim that it is streets ahead of the competition. I must admit that I liked it when I test drove it, but when the novelty wore off I started to see its faults. I'd never gone off a car that I'd owned before - quite the opposite, in fact. I get more attached to my cars....

Just make sure that any corresponding covers/fittings/fixings won't blow down or off without the main undercover attached to them.

Quick oil change whilst it's out of the way?..:-)
